Patent number: 4559741Abstract: Various edge guards and their methods of manufacture are disclosed. The edge guards and methods relate to improved procedures for manufacturing of edge guards so as to provide various forms of product improvements. The methods and edge guards are directed to the objective of providing an edge guard which resists electro-chemical corrosive action when mounted on an edge. This can be done by an insulated metal edge guard or by an edge guard of entirely non-metallic construction.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1983Date of Patent: December 24, 1985Assignee: U.S. Product Development Co.Inventor: Robert Adell

Patent number: 4365450Abstract: An ornamental and protective vehicle door edge guard comprises a metallic strip of generally U-shaped cross section which is self-retaining on the door edge. An insulating liner is disposed between the metallic edge guard and the door edge and comprises a thin sheet of plastic film arranged with the grain running generally lengthwise of the edge guard.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1980Date of Patent: December 28, 1982Assignee: U.S. Product Development Co.Inventor: Robert Adell

Patent number: 4338148Abstract: A method of manufacturing a door edge guard of the type particularly suitable for protection of the edge of an automobile door from paint chips. The method is an improvement over the technique of using separate manufacturing procedures to produce a plastic U-shaped inner channel (liner) configured to mate with a U-shaped metal outer channel. The method of the invention comprises the steps of roll-forming a metal element of an edge guard into a U-shaped channel element and bonding a plastic material to at least a portion of the inner surface area of the U-shaped metal element prior to completion of the roll-forming operation. The bonding may take place before roll-forming is begun.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1980Date of Patent: July 6, 1982Assignee: U.S. Product Development Co.Inventor: Robert Adell

Patent number: 4334700Abstract: An ornamental and protective vehicle door edge guard comprises a metallic strip of generally U-shaped cross section which is self-retaining on the door. Disposed on either, or both, free longitudinal edges of the metallic strip is a non-metallic strip of generally U-shaped cross section which serves to protect the door paint from being scratched or marred when the edge guard is applied to the door. The non-metallic strip further serves to insulate the metallic strip from the metal of the door.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1980Date of Patent: June 15, 1982Assignee: U.S. Product Development Co.Inventor: Robert Adell

Patent number: 4316348Abstract: An ornamental and protective vehicle door edge guard comprises a metallic strip of generally U-shaped cross section which is self-retaining on the door. A non-metallic insulating strip of generally U-shaped cross section forms an insulating liner between the metallic strip and the door. The non-metallic strip is applied to the door edge by itself before the metallic strip and comprises a longitudinally conformable material which allows it to be readily conformed to the contour of the door edge. The free edges of the non-metallic strip seal between the free edges of the legs of the metallic strip and opposite sides of the door edge.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1980Date of Patent: February 23, 1982Assignee: U.S. Product Development Co.Inventor: Robert Adell

Patent number: 4239724Abstract: The method of making valued plastic articles, such as game tiles and the like, comprising providing in one of a pair of separable mold members ejector pins for forcibly ejecting the tiles and severing them from residual plastic and providing in the other mold member protuberances which form indentations in one face of each tile which are essentially identical to indentations formed in the other face by the ejector pins. Indicia designating the value of a tile is subsequently applied to either face, the necessity of sorting of the tiles prior to application of indicia being eliminated by the invention.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1978Date of Patent: December 16, 1980Assignee: U.S. Product Development Co.Inventor: Robert Adell
