Abstract: An açai berry seed extract (açai palm fruit, Euterpe oleracea) and a process for obtaining the seed extract is provided which has an effect in the treatment of diseases or disorders individually or jointly related to the metabolic syndrome. A process is also provided for obtaining an açai berry seed extract or a fraction thereof, and a pharmaceutical and a food composition is provided for treating diseases or disorders individually or jointly related to the metabolic syndrome. A method for treating diseases or disorders individually or jointly associated with metabolic syndrome in humans or animals is also provided.
