    Abstract: A hybrid lithium electrochemical cell comprising a spirally wound cathode, separator and anode in a generally cylindrical structure with the packaging materials and terminal structure of a pouch cell. The cell may also contain a welded metal grid outside the pouch cell packaging material to insure a cylindrical shape. The resultant hybrid cell features improved capacity and specific energy.
