Abstract: A shopping cart includes a frame having a chassis portion and a handle portion extending upward from the chassis portion, a pair of front casters and a pair of rear casters mounted on the frame, and a basket connected to the frame and supported by the frame, the basket defining a chamber for holding articles, where the frame further includes a support structure connected to the chassis and the basket and supporting a portion of the basket. The shopping cart may include a number of wear resistance features that decrease the wear on the cart and extend the life of the shopping cart.

Abstract: A shopping cart basket having a handle region located at the front or the sides of the shopping cart basket is disclosed. The forward handle region may have a plurality of openings along the front, corners, and sides to allow a customer to easily grip the shopping cart basket and guide the shopping cart. The shopping cart basket may be formed from a metallic wire portion and a non-metallic forward handle region, or in some embodiments, the shopping cart basket may be formed from a fully formed from a polymer material. The shopping cart may also include non-metallic corner inserts that form a portion of the side and front walls of the shopping cart as well as a non-metallic bottom insert that forms a portion of the bottom wall of the shopping cart.

Abstract: A horn for a shopping cart includes a base plate and a pair of legs extending downwardly away from the base plate and opposed to one another. Each leg includes a first end connected to the base plate, an opposed second end, a central portion positioned between the first end and the second end, a first aperture, and a second aperture, with the first and second apertures being vertically aligned with one another and positioned proximate the second end.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for manufacturing grooved wire are provided. A set of rollers may form grooves on an outermost surface of a wire along an axial distance of the wire. The set of rollers may include a first roller and a second roller. The first and second roller may include groove-fabricating portions aligned circumferentially around a radial face of each of the rollers. The first roller and second roller, via the groove-fabricating portions, may form grooves on the outermost surface of the wire along the axial direction of the wire.

Abstract: A bracket assembly includes a bracket for attachment to a shopping cart and a cover connected to the bracket and covering at least part of the bracket. The bracket includes a metal plate having first and second faces, where the length is greater than the width, and the width is greater than the thickness. The bracket has a projection extending outward from the first face and a recess extending inward from the second face and corresponding to the projection. The cover has two walls and a cavity defined between the walls, and the bracket is received within the cavity such that the first and second faces each confront one of the walls. The cover further has a slot in at least one wall, such that the cover is press-fit on the bracket and the projection is received in the slot to retain the cover in connection with the bracket.

Abstract: A retractable tray is configured to be mounted on the wall of the basket of a shopping cart and includes a tray member that is moveable between a retracted position, where the tray member is located adjacent the wall of the basket, and an extended position, where the tray extends horizontally from the wall into the basket to form a shelf for supporting produce or other goods above the bottom of the basket. The retractable tray may be configured and dimensioned so as to not interfere with nesting of the cart in either the extended or retracted position.
