  • Patent number: 5836422
Abstract: A checkout stand supported by a floor has a working surface at a specific elevation above the floor and is combined with a shopping cart comprising a wheeled chassis, a handle structure, and a basket having side, bottom, and front walls, which are fixed to one another. The upper edges of the side walls are parallel to each other and slope downwardly toward the front wall. Being spaced at least several inches below the upper edges of the side walls, the upper edge of a central region of the front wall is located approximately at the same elevation above the floor. Each of two side regions of the front wall has a stepped edge between the upper edge of one of the side regions and the upper edge of the central region of the front panel.

  • Patent number: 5794953
Abstract: In a shopping cart comprising a wheeled chassis, a handle structure, and a basket fastened to the wheeled chassis and to the handle structure, the basket comprises a front panel molded from a plastic material and two side panels molded therefrom. Each of the front and side panels has a generally uniform lattice of hexagonal structures, each bordering a similarly shaped region, at least most of those regions being hexagonal apertures. An advertising card covering a portion of a selected panel is fastened to the selected panel by fasteners pressed into holes in plugs pressed tightly into associated ones of the hexagonal apertures or by fasteners pressed into holes in closed regions defined by the generally uniform lattice. The fasteners have barbed, threaded, or bifurcated shanks.

  • Patent number: 5791666
Abstract: In a shopping cart comprising a wheeled chassis, a handle structure including two handle uprights extending upwardly from the wheeled chassis, and a basket supported on the wheeled chassis and fastened to the handle uprights, two clips are employed for fastening the basket to the wheeled chassis. Each clip is fastened to an associated, generally horizontally extending portion of a frame of the wheeled chassis, beneath one of the side walls of the basket. Each clip has an upper, flanged end, which extends at least partly into an associated recess provided in one of the side walls of the basket and a lower, curved end, which conforms generally to and extends at least partly beneath the associated, generally horizontally extending portion of the frame. The frame of the wheeled chassis includes a tubular member defining the generally horizontally extending portions, to which the clips are riveted.

  • Patent number: 5636755
Abstract: In a storage rack system comprising a storage rack and a fire extinguishing device, a horizontally extending beam of the storage rack is located in a fixed position, at a predetermined elevation above a support surface. An outer wall of the beam defines a generally flat, inclined surface facing outwardly and downwardly at an angle in a range from about 10.degree. to about 80.degree. relative to a vertical plane. A vane is mounted to the beam so as to extend horizontally, below the beam, and so as to be parallel to the beam. The vane has a surface facing toward the beam and a surface facing away from the beam.

  • Patent number: 5595394
Abstract: A wheeled cart, such as a luggage cart, comprises a wheeled chassis and a handle portion extending upwardly from the wheeled chassis and having two upright portions spaced laterally from each other and a gripping portion extending laterally between the upright portions and is equipped with a seat for a child. The seat extends between the upright portions and has a bottom portion fixed to the upright portions and a backrest portion hinged to the bottom portion. At least three dividers extend upwardly from the seat and are spaced laterally from one another so as to define open-topped gaps to accommodate the legs of a child sitting on the seat and extending his or her legs through the open-topped gaps. The dividers are shaped so that handles of bags, purses, or like items can be hung over the dividers and, once hung thereover, can be lowered approximately to the bottom portion of the seat.
