  • Patent number: 6311987
Abstract: An arrangement for a hydraulically operated tool holder has a pressurizing system for operating a clamping device for a tool or workpiece. The pressurizing system comprises a movable operating element for pressure generation whereby the movement of the operating element causes a movement of a guideway which has an inclined or end or bend surface with respect to its direction of movement. The guideway coacts with the actuator rolling or sliding at the surface thereof whereby the movement resulting from the movement of the guideway is transmitted to at least one pressure transfer piston in a pressure cylinder. The pressure transfer piston comprises at least one support part for the actuator and a lip seal and coacts with the clamping device.

  • Patent number: 5538256
Abstract: The invention relates to a new method for producing a packing arrangement for a hydraulically operated apparatus. The method comprises the following steps: (a) producing a preshaped plastic piece of seal material; (b) compressing said preshaped piece at room temperature into a cylinder; and (c) compressing said preshaped piece at room temperature to its final form in said cylinder between a piston member and a counter press member, at least one of said piston member and counter press member being provided with rounded or tapered head portion facing against said preshaped piece, whereby the cross-section of said final compressed seal member is essentially wedge-shaped. The invention relates also to a packing arrangement produced by the method of the invention.

  • Patent number: 5476268
Abstract: A seal assembly includes a body portion of an element to be sealed, a groove formed into the surface of the body portion, a seal member of a relatively hard material for sealing a gap formed between the surface of the body portion and another element to be sealed. The groove has a space defined proximate its bottom for receiving a pressure medium, a protrusion or protrusions extending into the groove between the pressure medium space and the seal member, and a silicone rubber layer, cast in situ between the space and the seal member and around the protrusion, for transferring pressure from the pressure medium to the seal member and for sealing the groove to prevent escaping pressure medium. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the assembly has substantially the same structure, but an inflatable tube extends into the pressure medium space, and the silicone layer is cast in situ at least partly around the tube. The protrusion need not be provided.

  • Patent number: 5255928
Abstract: The invention relates to an adjustable fastening device e.g. for an axially-shaped, tubular, flat or spherical tool or working piece or machine part or a like of a desired shape. The device includes: a body section (1), a clamping means (2), mounted within the body section (1) and at least partly pressable/squeezable indirectly or directly against a piece (10) to be fastened. Between the body section (1) and the clamping is provided a space (3), which is pregreased for a medium effecting said pressing/squeezing. The medium comprises in situ cast elastomer (5) whereby, upon the application of pressure on elastomer by means of a screw, a piston or the like, said elastomer (5) delivers by way of its displacement and/or deformation said pressure to clamping means (2) which thus presses/squeezes against a piece (10) to be fastened and, upon releasing said pressure, the elastomer (5) returns to its initial state.

  • Patent number: 5251912
Abstract: This invention relates to an adjustable packing for sealing a gap between two surfaces. The packing includes a packing member for sealing the gap, the sealing pressure thereof being adjusted by means of the elastomer, preferably two-component silicone, serving as a pressure medium. The elastomer is at least partially in the form of particles in an elastomer chamber. Between the elastomer and the walls of the elastomer chamber is preferably applied a suitable grease layer or a release agent layer which assists the function of the elastomer as a pressure medium.

  • Patent number: 5234335
Abstract: A hydraulic or pneumatic power unit (1) includes at least one elastomer space (4) for a compressive-force producing/transmitting elastomer (5), the space (4) being formed so as to provide the space (4) with at least one constriction point between pressurizing side and compressing side, and that the elastomer space (4) is filled with elastomer (5) by casting elastomer in situ. Elastomer space (4) is preferably in direct communication with a pressurizing space (2) for a hydraulic fluid (7), the pressurizing space (2) being connected to a pressurizing unit (20).
