Patent number: 5275544Abstract: An apparatus is provided for moulding a polymeric foam into a bun in a longitudinally-extending, channel shaped mould by a mobile vessel and fall plate which are progressively transported from one end to the other of the mould to lay down partially-expanded foam over the bottom of the mould. The apparatus includes a mould for receiving a polymeric foam and including a longitudinally-extending, channel-shaped enclosed mould through which a mobile vessel and fall plate are progressively transported from one end to the other of the mould to lay down partially-expanded foam over the bottom of the mould while the mould is in a moulding position. Gas is vented from the interior of the mould and the mould is moved from the moulding position to a curing position remote from the moulding position where the bun cures in the mould.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1991Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: Unifoam AGInventor: Delane Marlowe

Patent number: 4601864Abstract: In the production of polymeric foam in particular polyurethane foam slabstock, a mixture of foam reactants is allowed to expand in a closed mould while substantially atmospheric pressure is maintained above the upper surface of the foam. After expansion is completed, air is supplied to the foam upper surface and noxious gases in the foam are removed through one or more apertures in the lower region of the mould. Preferably, the air supplied is dry. Removed gases may be collected for re-cycling. Air may be supplied during foam expansion. Various mould aperture arrangements and means for progressively covering the mould are described.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1984Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Assignee: Unifoam AGInventor: Nicholas C. Patent number: 4530807Abstract: Polymeric foam, particularly polyurethane foam block, is produced in a stationary, longitudinally-extending, channel-shaped, mould (1a). A mixture of foam reactants partially expands in a vessel (40) and overflows down a fall plate (41) to the bottom of the mould. The vessel and fall plate are progressively transported from one end of the mould to the other to lay down partially expanded foam over the bottom of the mould (FIG. 1). The ends (11,12) of the mould may be opened to permit entry and exit of a foam lay-down unit (6) and transporting means (7) and to permit removal of the expanded foam strand (61) (FIGS. 6 and 7). The mould may be covered (14) after foam lay down and means (5) may be provided for removing gases emanating from the foam (FIG. 1).Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1984Date of Patent: July 23, 1985Assignee: Unifoam AGInventor: Nicholas C. Patent number: 3998575Abstract: This invention relates to the production of continuous length of polymeric foam by depositing a foam mix in a moving open topped trough shaped conveyor by which it is conveyed and in which the mix foams freely and in the region when foaming takes place, contacting each side surface of the rising foam with an upwardly moving surface, preferably a system of upwardly moving wires interposed between each side surface of the rising foam and its adjacent side wall of the trough conveyor, the speed and direction of travel of the system of wires being selected so that the foam emerging from the foaming region has a flat upper surface.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1975Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: Unifoam AGInventor: Nicholas Cornelis Vreenegoor
