Abstract: A non-woven hydroentangled textile is described formed in cross-section with a central area of low mass fiber density surrounded on both sides by areas of higher mass density. Further, a personal cleansing article is described wherein the hydroentangled textile is associated with a personal cleansing composition that includes a lathering surfactant. The composition is deposited onto, impregnated into or at least is partially enclosed by the textile. Also described is a process for producing the textile involving feeding into a hydroentangling unit a loose random assembly of fibers both above and below a fibrous screen modifying textile substrate.

Abstract: An article that is especially suitable for cleansing skin is described which includes a foamable composition having the form of an elastic semi-solid gel and a fibrous layer made up of a continuous network of bonded fibers. The weight ratio of the foamable composition to the fibrous layer is in the range from about 30 to 1 to about 2000 to 1 and the foamable composition at least partially encompasses the fibrous layer.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided which includes a high level of glycerin, a chemically modified starch which is preferably a hydroxypropyl di-starch phosphate or an acetylated di-starch adipate, and a crystalline gel structurant comprising a surfactant and co-surfactant, the structurant having an enthalpy ranging from about 2 to about 15 Joule per gram. The composition has a silky sensory feel and exhibits a positive normal force, preferably ranging from about +0.5 to about +5 grams. The glycerin to chemically modified starch is present in a weight ratio ranging from about 100:1 to about 2:1. Advantageously, the composition has a SkiCon Value ranging from about 10 to about 80.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a venting closure that reduces the amount of headspace in a container. The venting closure has a patch that changes the location and reduces the size of the vent opening. Accordingly, the vent closure enables a container which has a vent opening to holds more product without having to expand the size of the container.

Abstract: The invention discloses bar compositions which are milder than soap but have squeaky feel or rinse associated with soap. This is accomplished by ensuring at least a certain portion (at least 1%), or all, of the soluble surfactant system is ion-sensitive. Further, soluble soap comprises less than 1% by wt. of bar, which helps produce a less alkaline pH bar while allowing squeaky feel to be produced.

Abstract: A process which may be continuous is provided for manufacture of personal care product compositions. The process involves feeding a first water phase which is a concentrate containing most if not all water soluble ingredients of the composition into a blending tube. A second phase which can be oily or aqueous and a third water phase, the latter being essentially pure water, are also fed into the blending tube. All of the phases are transported through the tube at a flow rate of about 5 to about 5,000 lbs./minute and at a pressure of about 10 to about 5,000 psi. Preferably the tube leads into a homogenizer such as a sonolator.

The method can act to condition the hair.

The problem can be ameliorated or overcome by the use of a combination of amido structurants comprising (i) an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent has the formula —CO—RX in which RX represents a branched C6 to C11 alkyl group in combination with a further amido structurant (ii), selected from (iia) N-acylaminoacid amides other than (i), (iib) cyclodipeptides and (iic) a 1,2-di amido-substituted cyclohexane.

Abstract: Anhydrous cosmetic antiperspirant stick compositions containing a continuous phase of a water-immiscible cosmetic oil structured by a fibre-forming amido structurant can exhibit undesirable sensory properties when 12-hydroxy-stearic acid is employed as primary gellant and the preparation of sick compositions suffers from sever processing difficulties when certain of such amido structurants are employed as primary gellant. Stick compositions having desirable sensory properties can be made by employing as primary gellant, a combination of amido structurants comprising (i) an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent has the formula —CO—RX in which RX represents a branched C6 to C11 alkyl group and (ii) an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent contains a linear alkyl group and the cosmetic carrier oil comprising from 25 to 50% by weight of a water-immiscible monohydric alcohol that is liquid at 20° C. and a boiling point of higher than 100° C.

Abstract: A process and equipment for manufacture of a swab article is provided wherein a stick is placed onto a conveyor, adhesive is applied to one or both ends of the stick, a portion of cotton coil is attached to the adhesive bearing end, and a shaper bar or similar means forces the cotton to assume a teardrop profile by applying force parallel to the stick, wherein the shaper bar or similar means moves in a direction perpendicular to the stick at a different rate of speed than that of the stick. Differences in the rate of speed reduce tailing of cotton normally associated with drag.

Abstract: An ordered liquid crystalline phase cleansing composition is disclosed that contains a solid particulate optical modifier that modifies the appearance of the skin after rinsing the skin. A method of depositing the solid particulate optical modifier to the skin or hair with the ordered liquid crystalline phase cleansing composition is also disclosed.
