Publication number: 20040119048Abstract: Process of making aqueous compositions comprising a perborate salt, a polyol, and optionally a builder and a surfactant. The advantageous properties of the composition include increased solubility of the perborate salt, increased available oxygen stability in an aqueous environment, and the capacity to increase the pH upon the dilution. The inventive process includes mixing the ingredients at a temperature below 50° C. and the pH below 10.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2002Publication date: June 24, 2004Applicant: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA, Divison of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Yun Peng Zhu, Feng-Lung Gordon Hsu, Kimball James Woelfel

Patent number: 6596684Abstract: A granular detergent component comprising a high level of surfactant, for example, cationic surfactant, and an inorganic carrier material is prepared by a process involving spraying an aqueous solution of the surfactant onto moving granules of the inorganic carrier material in the presence of a drying gas, preferably air, at a temperature within the range of from 65 to 200° C. The process is preferably carried out in a fluidised bed. Preferred inorganic carrier materials are sodium carbonate and zeolite MAP.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2001Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA divison of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Martin Peter Astley, William Derek Emery

Patent number: 6436896Abstract: The invention provides a method for the preparation of an aqueous fabric softening composition comprising; (i) at least one cationic fabric softening compound having two or more alkyl or alkenyl chains each having an average chain length equal to, or greater than, C8 and (ii) at least one oily sugar derivative, wherein the cationic fabric softening compound (i), and/or the oily sugar derivative (ii) is/are separately mixed with another active component of the fabric softening composition to form a pre-mixture prior to the admixing of the softening compound (i) with the oily sugar derivative (ii). The invention also provides an aqueous based fabric softening composition produced by the method of the invention, and, a method of treating fabrics with the composition so produced.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA, a divison of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Ian David Charlton, David Stephen Grainger, Mansur Sultan Mohammadi, Prabhat Sakya

Patent number: 6303565Abstract: The invention provides a process of improving the viscosity stability upon storage at temperatures of 25° C. or more but below 40° C. of a fabric softening composition comprising: (a) a 8 to 50% by weight of a cationic fabric softening agent; and (b) perfume by the inclusion of 3.5% to 15% by weight of an emulsified silicone, based upon the total amount of the composition, which has been emulsified with one or more cationic surfactants. In one aspect, the viscosity of the silicone before emulsification is from 10,000 cSt to 400,000 cSt, preferably from 20,000 cSt to 350,000 cSt, more preferably from 25,000 cSt to 250,000 cSt and the emulsion is a macro-emulsion. In another aspect, the median emulsified silicone droplet size is at least 0.2 &mgr;m, preferably at least 0.25 &mgr;m, more preferably at least 0.39 &mgr;m, preferably also no greater than 25 &mgr;m.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2000Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA, Divison of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: David Ellis Clarke, Samantha Small
