Abstract: Lipase is supported on a carrier material, which may hydrophobic or formed of an ion-exchange resin, by adsorbing to the carrier the lipase and a substantial coating of a non-lipase protein such as ovalbumin, bovine serum albumin or sodium caseinate. The protein is applied simultaneous with or prior to the lipase. The protein coating improves the activity of the enzyme especially with respect to its use in esterification and inter-esterification reactions.
Abstract: A lubricant/working fluid composition for use in mechanical vapor compression type heat transfer devices is described wherein the working fluid is preferably tetrafluoroethane and the lubricant is an ester which is miscible with the working fluid at 10% over a temperature range of -50.degree. C. to +80.degree. C. and has a viscosity of 5 to 100 cSt at 40.degree. C. Useful esters include pentaerythritol partial ester of straight chain C.sub.5 or branched chain C.sub.7 carboxylic acids. The esters are compatible with non-chlorine containing working fluids and exhibit a low level of corrosion.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of indole applicable in flavoring and perfume compositions wherein a micro-organism which does not or hardly metabolize indole is cultured aerobically or anaerobically in a culture medium containing as the substrate tryptophan of natural origin. The produced indole in the fermentation broth may be isolated therefrom with a food grade extraction agent.

Abstract: The invention relates to an aqueous lubricant solution based in part on a particular group of fatty alkyl amines, which aqueous solution is especially suitable for use as a belt lubricant for the lubrication of conveyor belts for bottles. The aqueous lubricant solutions in accordance with the present invention exhibit excellent clouding behavior and very good gliding action.
Abstract: Alcoholic beverages are filtered after being stabilized, e.g. with silica hydrogel. Silica hydrogel is usable as a filter aid when blended with 25% to 75% by weight of cellulose. The hydrogel cellulose and blend satisfy requirements for permeability.
Abstract: Amorphous silicas suitable for use as abrasives in transparent toothpastes can be prepared by a precipitation route. These silicas are distinguished by having a BET surface area of 420 to 550 m.sup.2 /g, a weight mean particle size of 5 to 20 micron, a perspex abrasion value of 15 to 28, a mean pore diameter from 3 to 8 nm and a transmission of at least 70% in the R1 range from 1.444 to 1.460.

Abstract: Pack made from a single-piece board blank which is coated with a sealable plastic layer on its inside, with an at least approximately elliptical base section to which two side panels are hinged which in turn have sealing edge strips divided off from them by folding lines, and with folding lines to divide gusset sections off from the base section and the side panels. The folding lines which divide the base section continue in the side panels where they divide off end panels. Flap extensions are in addition provided on the sealing edge strips, which make it possible to flatten the sealing edge strips against the end panels.
Abstract: Three dimensional hydrophobic substantially inorganic porous structure comprises a myriad of cavities interconnected by holes in which the diameters of the cavities are in the range of from 0.5 to 100 .mu.m and the diameters of the holes are in the range of from 0.1 to 20 .mu.m the porosity of the structure having a narrow pore size distribution with the cavities having a pore volume of at least 2 cc/g for a predetermined 10 .mu.m range of sizes. The structure is preferably an inorganic oxide selected from the group comprising alumina, silica, titania, zirconia and mixtures thereof. The structure is preferably made from an oil-in-water emulsion with a silylating agent in the internal phase so as to render the structure hydrophobic.
Abstract: Substitute milk fat especially as a replacement fat in infant formulations comprises 2-saturated glycerides especially 2-palmitic acid glycerides, in which the 1, 3 positions are randomly occupied substantially by different shorter chain and/or unsaturated fatty acids. These glycerides are prepared by selective rearrangement of glycerides using 1, 3-regiospecific lipase enzymes as rearrangement catalysts, preferably in acidolysis rearrangement using unsaturated acid or alkyl ester thereof.
