  • Patent number: 7503760
Abstract: A mold for blow molding has a base component for forming at least one portion of a concave base of a container and comprising a mounting plate having connections for supply and return of a heat transfer fluid, a body having a molding surface thereon and having a substantially cylindrical recess having a roof spaced from the molding surface, a substantially cylindrical insert comprising a diverting surface, an inlet passage therethrough and open to the diverting surface and an outlet passage therethrough, the diverting surface spaced from the roof and side of the recess so as to define a cavity and a drain therefrom open to the outlet passage. In a method of blow molding turbulent flow is induced in heat transfer fluid conducted through the base component from impact with the roof and the turbulent flow is dispersed within the cavity over the diverting surface whereby heat transfer from the molding surface is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 7014446
Abstract: The present invention provides a molding machine and a mold assembly having a quick change volume control insert. The volume control insert can be changed without disassembly of the mold or use of special tools. The molding machine includes a mold, a mold insert, a locking member, and a release member. The mold insert is received in one of the mold halves and further includes a mold detail defining a portion of the mold cavity, and a retention member. A locking member engages the retention member when the mold detail is received within the mold half. The release member, accessible from the exterior of the mold half, and is adapted to disengage the locking member from the retention member, allowing the mold detail to be removed.

  • Publication number: 20040175455
Abstract: A plastic injection molding station having a mold assembly with a plurality of first mold sections and a plurality of second mold sections. Each of the first mold portions adapted to cooperate with one of the second mold portions so as to define a plurality of mold cavities, the mold cavities being of equal distance across the length of the mold assembly and further defining a shape of an article to be injection molded therein. The first mold portions and second mold portions are adapted for relative movement between an engaged position where the first and second mold portions define the mold cavities and a disengaged position where the first and second mold portions are separated from one another. The station also includes a locking assembly adapted to lock the first and second mold portions together in the engaged position.

  • Patent number: 6360414
Abstract: An apparatus for deflashing plastic blow molded articles is disclosed. The apparatus includes feed screw which engage one side of the container to move the container. A nesting wheel and a trim wheel are rotated in opposite directions to bring trim tools and nest tools together. The screw moves the container so that the nest tool engages the container and carries the container so that it is between the nest tool and trim tool as they intermesh. As a result, the container is nested, trimmed and released in one continuous motion.

  • Patent number: 6311593
Abstract: An apparatus for trimming the neck of a blow molded plastic bottle in which a reverse punch is mounted on an end of a shaft. A knife is also mounted to the shaft adjacent to the reverse punch and includes a cutting edge recessed from the cutting edge of the reverse punch. A stripper arm is mounted on the shaft and axially moves with the shaft. The stripper arm's distal end is adjacent to the reverse punch and recessed from the cutting edge of the reverse punch. An actuator causes the distal end of the stripper arm to move to a position located radially outward from the cutting surface when a trimmer ring from the neck of a bottle is to be removed from the apparatus.
