Abstract: A battery canister is described which comprises a plurality of electrically conductive trays of polygonal configuration each containing a set of drycell batteries set firmly in position whereby the negative terminals of the batteries are connected in parallel by contact with the base of the tray. The trays are stacked one above the other wherein the positive terminals of one set of batteries are in series contact with the batteries directly above them through pressure contact through the tray. The trays are sealed within a casing and electrically insulated therefrom with the base of the bottom tray being connected to a negative terminal on the casing and the positive terminals of the top tray being connected to a positive terminal on said casing, thereby reducing the number of soldering points required for the canister construction.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cutting stuffed sausage casing into individual lengths in the area of a linkage is described. Chilled casing which is stuffed with sausage meat and linked at predetermined points is guided through the apparatus, a forked blade is positioned over a first linkage and the casing is advanced towards a cutting zone. The forked blade is pivotally mounted on a carriage assembly which is slidably moveable along the direction of the chilled casing. The casing is cut in the area of the linkage by cooperation of a cutting blade with the forked blade in the cutting zone. The carriage assembly is then withdrawn from the cutting zone and the forked blade pivoted forward and upward out of the way of the casing. The forked blade is drawn over the surface of the casing until a second linkage is contacted.
Abstract: A low temperature lubricant oil composition having improved viscosity-temperature properties, lubricating properties and pour point is described. The composition comprises a homogeneous mixture of from 1% to 50% by weight of poly(dimethylsiloxane) having an average viscosity at 100.degree. F between 100,000 cs and 1,000,000 cs, the remainder of the mixture being a hydrocarbon oil selected from certain alkenes, isoparaffins and naphthenics. The composition can also contain a foam inhibitor such as a perfluoroalkylpolyether.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of freezing a large volume of ground for tunnel construction and the like utilizing liquified nitrogen is described. The apparatus consists generally of a series of freeze pipes embedded in the ground, each of the freeze pipes consisting of a conductor tube and an inner header tube. The header tube of each of the succeeding freeze pipes in the series have discharge holes of a predetermined cross-section so that greater control of gaseous and liquified nitrogen pressure can be maintained throughout the system. By means of this method and apparatus more accurate control of ground freezing can be made by merely controlling the inlet liquified nitrogen pressure and the exhaust gaseous nitrogen temperature.
