  • Patent number: 4963637
Abstract: The present invention is directed to novel isocyanate-terminated prepolymers of carboxylic acid grafted polyethers, salts of these prepolymers and fully reacted polymers formed therefrom. More specifically, the present invention relates to reacting an ethylenically unsaturated mono-carboxylic acid with a polyether in the presence of a free radical initiator to form a graft copolymer. Acid-containing isocyanate-terminated prepolymers can then be formed by reacting the graft copolymer with an isocyanate. Salt-containing isocyanate-terminated prepolymers are prepared through the reaction between the acid-containing prepolymer and a base. Finally, polymers are formed by curing either of these isocyanate-terminated prepolymers with an isocyanate reactive material.

  • Patent number: 4962218
Abstract: Novel compositions of silicone/polyether block copolymers are provided which are useful as surfactants in several classes of polyurethane foam production. While conventional copolymers have a polysiloxane backbone with pendant polyethers, the surfactants of the present invention are the reverse with siloxane pendants on a polyether chain. These novel non-hydrolyzable polysiloxane polyoxyalkylene copolymers which are characterized by an "inverted" structure, i.e., polyoxyalkylene backbones with lateral and/or terminally pendant polysiloxanes, represent species that are of a narrow molecular weight and compositional distribution and are free of unreacted polyether or non-modified silicone oil diluent. These surfactants are useful in various urethane foam systems and can also display aqueous wetting properties.

  • Patent number: 4956426
Abstract: A method and system for regulating the isotacticity of polypropylene in a continuous process for manufacturing polypropylene by the polymerization of alpha-olefins in a fluidized bed reactor system using a model which correlates isotacticity values to catalyst productivity values. A catalyst productivity target value is computed using the model based upon a selected xylene solubles or isotactic index. The instantaneous catalyst productivity of the system is then determined by dividing product production rate by catalyst flow rate which is then compared to the catalyst productivity target value. When the comparison between the instantaneous catalyst productivity value and the catalyst productivity differ the molar feed ratio of SCA to alkyl is automatically adjusted until the catalyst productivity, and hence isotacticity, is changed approaching the target values.
