Abstract: A liquid transfer article, such as an ink roll, and method for producing it, in which the article comprises a substrate coated with a ceramic or metallic carbide coating having engraved in its surface a pattern of wells adapted for receiving a metered quantity of a liquid, such as ink, and wherein the microporosities in the surface of the wells are filled with a film of a vapor-deposited polymer, such as parylene.
