Patent number: 4445525Abstract: The arrangement is provided in order to limit or prevent leakages of cooling liquid which always occur under various circumstances at the ends of the machine. The arrangement is provided at the input and output ends of the machine for cooling metal sheets or the like, which is of the type comprising an upper frame and a lower frame. Each frame comprises two lateral walls interconnected by a case which defines an enclosure in which the cooling liquid circulates. The arrangement resides in the fact that there are provided, at each of said ends, on one hand, a sump for collecting the cooling liquid and carried by the lower frame and extending throughout the width of the machine and, on the other hand, a device carried by the upper frame and adapted to project toward the interior of the machine a jet of fluid which is directed in counter-current fashion against the cooling liquid which tends to issue from the machine.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Union Siderurgique du Nord et de l'Est de la FranceInventors: Stephane Viannay, Alfred Germain, Jack Sebbah

Patent number: 4289005Abstract: A process for controlling the flatness of a metal sheet subjected to a cold-rolling operation by the measurement of the tensions in different regions of the width of the sheet. There are at least three regions. The process comprises calculating the sum of the tensions measured in the respective regions, calculating from the result obtained the theoretical tension in each region corresponding to a tension uniformly distributed along the width of the sheet, comparing said theoretical tension with the tension effectively measured in the corresponding region and exerting, if required, the required correcting actions as a function of the results of said comparison.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1979Date of Patent: September 15, 1981Assignee: Union Siderurgique du Nord et de l'est de la France (USINOR)Inventors: Pierre M. Patent number: 4279845Abstract: In this process, there is carried out first of all, through orifices formed in the wall of the apparatus and by means of a suitable device, the injection of a first product for filling in the vicinity of the inner face of this wall the porosities of the charge and forming a whole with this charge. After a suitable period of time which ensures that the aforementioned effect is achieved, there is injected a second product which must form the permanent coating under sufficient pressure to be able to slip between the inner wall and the first coat previously formed by taking advantage of the compressibility of the charge. In this way it is possible to spread in a substantially uniform manner on the inner wall of the furnace a product which is capable of constituting the lining.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1979Date of Patent: July 21, 1981Assignee: Union Siderurgique du Nord et De L'est De La France (USINOR)Inventor: Pierre Maisonnave

Patent number: 4268305Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for treating liquid steel for the manufacture of machine wire. All or part of the manganese is added to an extra-mild steel, obtained after refining by any steelmaking process, directly in the production apparatus to obtain the desired manganese content. The steel thus obtained is poured into a first ladle or into another pouring apparatus and carbon is added to the liquid mass in the first ladle and thereafter the metal obtained is poured into a second ladle and a given amount of, first, silicon and then aluminium is added. This process produces a machine wire which is more suitable for wiredrawing.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1978Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Assignee: Union Siderurgique du Nord et de l'est de la FranceInventors: Jacques Leclerc, Rene Cormet, Guy Marcus
