  • Patent number: 4419948
Abstract: A needle bar bushing having a lubricant seal for reducing excess lubricant on the needle bar of a sewing machine. The lubricant seal includes a plurality of vertically aligned scraping portions including at least two similarily disposed conical scraping edges situated over a portion of the length of the needle bar bushing. The conical scraping edges being arranged in surrounding engagement with the needle bar for stripping and leading excess lubricant from the peripheral surface of the needle bar thus reducing the danger of lubricant working its way through the bushing and being thrown onto the work being sewn as a result of needle bar reciprocation.

  • Patent number: 4325314
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved thread control mechanism for chain-stitch sewing machines. The present invention is adapted to apply a quick and effective clamping action to the sewing thread of the machine in timed relation with the rotary or oscillatory movements of the stitch forming instrumentalities. The mechanism's clamping force magnitude may be selectively regulated to exceed the tensile strength of the particular thread being used and is effective to break the thread should it become wound about an operable rotary shaft of the machine. The present invention includes a rotary actuating member for moving a thread engaging member between two extreme positions so as to entrap and intermittently clamp the thread at a location interposed between the stitch forming instrumentalities and the thread supply source.

  • Patent number: 4312290
Abstract: This invention relates to a feed mechanism for a blindstitch sewing machine including a stitch shortening and tacking mechanism. Elliptical feeding movement is imparted to the feed dog by a fulcrumed lever driven off an eccentric on the main shaft of the machine. An operator controlled eccentric actuator is operatively connected to mechanism which changes the fulcrumed position of the feed lever to vary the elliptical path of the feed dog whereby effecting the advancement of the workpiece during the sewing operation without effecting needle reciprocation. An auxiliary thread tensioning assembly is provided to control the amount of thread utilized during the stitch tacking operation.

  • Patent number: 4102284
Abstract: This invention relates to a stacker mechanism for removing flexible work pieces from the working area of a machine. The stacker mechanism of the present invention includes a frame, an arm, and a support member having first and second pivotal connections. The first pivotal connection serves to rotatably secure the support member to the frame and allows the arm carried thereby to be vertically rotated. The second pivotal connection allows pivotal movement of the arm in a horizontal direction. The end of the arm opposite the second pivotal connection carries a wiper mechanism for engaging and moving the work piece. A driver is employed for pivotally moving the arm. A motion retarding assembly is provided at the second pivotal connection for applying frictional restraint to the horizontal turning movement of the arm whereby a higher coefficient of friction is maintained at the second pivotal connection relative the first pivotal connection.

  • Patent number: 4098209
Abstract: A cylinder bed machine provided with a thread cutting device having a retractable and laterally movable assemblage which includes a thread seizing member, a knife and a thread clamp. Upon actuation the assemblage cooperatively moves forwardly and laterally to a predetermined distance from the stitching area whereat the knife and thread clamp are held. The thread seizing member continues forward movement to a position for seizing the threads situated about the looper. Upon return, the seizing member carries the threads to the knife and thread clamp position whereat they are cut and clamped. Once the threads are cut and clamped the assemblage is returned to its initial position. An adjustable guide directs the seizing member through the thread loops formed about the looper.

  • Patent number: 4094260
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically and continually feeding workpieces, one after another, to a sewing machine. The continuous feeding is imparted to the workpiece by a plurality of connecting links which connect the trailing edge of one workpiece with the leading edge of the following workpiece at a point in front of the sewing instrumentalities. The workpiece that is being fed into and through the machine automatically draws the succeeding workpiece towards and through the machine due to the connecting link fastening these two together. Motion is imparted to the connecting links by the feed device associated with the sewing machine. The connecting links are guided through a predetermined path by a rail system which automatically returns the connecting link to a staging area after same has been released from the workpiece. A sewing machine fastens together the continguous ends of the workpieces and a cutter cuts the chain formed therebetween.
