    Abstract: The present invention provides certain 3-aryl-5,6-dihydro-1,4,2-ocathiazines and their oxides, useful for the long-term preservation of wood and composite wood materials against wood damaging and wood destroying materials. The present invention also provides compositions containing these 3-aryl-5,6-dihydro-1,4,2-oxathiazines and their oxides, and a suitable vehicle therefor. A method of preserving wood is also disclosed in which a fungicidally or bactericidally effective amount of the present 3-aryl-5,6-dihydro-1,4,2-oxathiazines and their oxides, are applied to the wood substrate to be protected.

    Abstract: Water-dispersible powder formulations used in connection with seed treatment and foliar treatment of plants provide excellent dust and rub-off control. The powder formulations comprise an active ingredient, a wetting agent, a dispersant, an anticaking agent, and an adhesion ingredient selected from the group consisting of a sodium salt of a polyacrylic acid, a sodium salt of maleic acid/acrylic acid copolymer, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, an alkylated polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and mixtures thereof. The wetting agent is present in an amount that is effective for enabling the powder formulation to be wettable by cold water. The dispersant is present in an amount that is effective for enabling the powder formulation to be dispersible in cold water. The anticaking agent is present in an amount that is effective for enabling the powder formulation to be re-suspendable in water. The adhesion ingredient is present in an amount that is effective for enabling the powder formulation to adhere to a plant leaf or seed.

    Abstract: A biological degradation process is disclosed. The biological gradation process utilizes a unique thermophilic aerobic bacterial mixture capable of converting, biologically or via oxidation, aqueous and other liquid streams containing substances that are ordinarily considered toxic to conventional biological systems. Substances ordinarily considered toxic to conventional biological systems, but which nevertheless are converted by the thermophilic aerobic bacterial mixture, include aniline; benzothiazole; 5,6-dihydro-2-methyl-N-phenyl-1,4-oxathiin-3-carboxamide; lindane (technically known as 1.alpha.,2.alpha.,3.beta.,4.alpha.,5.alpha.,6.beta.-hexachlorocyclohexane) ; 2-mercaptobenzothiazole; toluene; and combinations thereof. The unique thermophilic aerobic bacterial mixture comprises relative effective amounts of Pseudomonas stutzeri, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas mendocina and Alcaligenes denitrificans subsp. xylosoxydans.

This process stereoselectively produces the cis stereoisomer of the 1,3-oxathiolane sulfoxide. Additionally, there is disclosed a novel method for the preparation of 5,6-dihydro-2-methyl-1,4-oxathiin compounds using this process.

    Abstract: Water-dispersible paste formulations used in connection with seed treatment and foliar treatment of plants provide excellent dust and rub-off control. The paste formulations comprise an active ingredient and a hydrocarbon oil carrier having a boiling point of at least 150.degree. C. The carrier is present in an amount that is effective for reducing dusting off of the plant leaf or seed. The paste formulations further include a surfactant and an effervescent comprising an alkaline carbonate and a solid and weak acid. The surfactant, the alkaline carbonate, and the solid and weak acid are respectively present in an amount that is effective for enabling the paste formulation to readily and quickly be dispersed in water. The paste formulations are especially suitable for containment in water soluble and/or water-dispersible bags or pouches, such use tending to render the active ingredient safer to handle and therefore better for consumers and the environment.
