  • Patent number: 5964267
Abstract: A tread configuration for a vehicle tire, including at least two adjacent circumferentially oriented rows of profiled blocks. The rows are separated from one another by respective circumferential grooves. The base of each groove extends parallel to the circumferential direction. A respective side wall on each side of the base extends radially outwardly from the base and forms side walls of profiled blocks of an adjacent one of the rows of blocks. Radially outer end portions of the side walls of the grooves are essentially oriented in the circumferential direction and have their contour divided by a plurality of axially oriented offsets.

  • Patent number: 5703284
Abstract: A device for simulating non-uniform wear on a tread strip of a pneumatic vehicle tire has a support structure and a friction body with radially symmetry connected to the support structure so as to be rotatable about a first axis of rotation. The friction body has a rigid circumferential mantle surface with a continuous, permanent friction coating. A receptacle is rotatably connected to the support structure for receiving a vehicle wheel with pneumatic vehicle tire. The vehicle wheel is rotated about a second axis of rotation with the receptacle. A load applying member is connected to the receptacle and extends radially relative to the friction body. It acts radially onto the receptacle for pressing the pneumatic vehicle tire onto the friction coating for generating wear at the pneumatic vehicle tire. A first control device for pivoting the second axis of rotation of the vehicle wheel about a first pivot axis is provided. The first pivot axis extends perpendicular to the first axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5549147
Abstract: A tread design for a pneumatic tire of radial construction for high-speed vehicles is provided. The tire has a height-to-width ratio of .ltoreq.0.6 with a tread design that is tied to the direction of rotation. The tread design comprises profiled elements that are steeply oriented in the circumferential direction at an angle to the equatorial plane of the tire and are arranged in the shape of V's. The profiled elements extend from a central portion of the tread into shoulder regions of the tire, with the profiled elements being angled-off at a bend region in the shoulder regions in the direction of an axis of the tire. Respective continuous inclined grooves that proceed from the central portion to the shoulder regions are formed between the profiled elements. A circumferentially extending rib is disposed in the equatorial plane and forms two central, circumferentially extending grooves, one on each side of the rib, between this rib and starting portions of the profiled elements.

Each of the belt plies contains individual filaments of metal wire that are disposed parallel to one another. Each of the filaments, within a circumferential plane, extends at an angle to the circumferential direction of the tire from one belt side that axially delimits the belt to the other belt side that axially delimits the belt, with the individual filaments of two radially superimposed belt plies being respectively oriented diagonally and crossed relative to one another. The individual filaments have a wavelike or helical configuration in the circumferential plane, and have amplitudes that in the circumferential direction are distributed in a random manner.

  • Patent number: 5273094
Abstract: In a pneumatic vehicle tire of a divided carcass the reinforcement elements are arranged at different angles of orientation. They may be provided as a combination of the same or different materials, the same or different cord constructions, the same or different packing densities. The overlap area of two adjacent carcass layer sections represents a transition area of a gradually stepped stiffness. The overlap area represents a constructive discontinuity and is employed for influencing the force fluctuations. The divided carcass which is essentially a sounding board may also be influenced by differently constructed carcass layer sections. The manufacture of such a divided carcass is inexpensive.

  • Patent number: 5050658
Abstract: A pneumatic vehicle tire for use on a one-piece wheel rim having radially inwardly disposed rim shoulders on which corresponding bead portions of the tire are mounted. The tire bead portions have bead rings that are formed of flat strips, whereby the longest dimension of the cross-sectional configuration of the flat strips is parallel to the direction of a run-flat force, thereby fixing the greatest angular impulse force parallel to the run-flat force. This reliably prevents the tire bead from being thrown from the rim, especially during emergency operation.

  • Patent number: 4909074
Abstract: A method for detecting, evaluating, and indicating a tire air pressure value. Information signals are compared with a plurality of desired value curves having a tolerance range and an average value for the atmospheric temperature, whereupon these signals are evaluated. The pressure deviation, as a function of the desired value tolerance ranges, is assigned a specific pressure state, from which an acutal air pressure state is indicated that takes into account regional and seasonal pressure and temperature influences. Furthermore, a maximum speed and a permissible speed can be determined during emergency operation, or a state of emergency operation can be determined.

  • Patent number: 4676288
Abstract: A vehicle wheel and tire assembly. In the event of an emergency operation, the pneumatic tire contacts a support member of the rim. A stabilizing arrangement protects the wheel and tire assembly from moving in an uncontrolled manner. This stabilizing arrangement is in the form of a corrugation, which is provided both on the inner surface of the tire and on the support member of the rim. This corrugation, which can be a fine groove system, reliably assures that the tire and the rim are provided with steering stability, especially when driving in curves.
