  • Patent number: 4622235
Abstract: A method and apparatus for electrostatically flocking a thread-like or yarn-like material. This material rectilinearly and continuously or intermittently is moved through an electrical field which is generated between electrodes having non-planar yet symmetrical potential surfaces. This electrical field preferably is generated between curved potential surfaces of the electrodes. The flock is shot into the adhesive coating of a given thread not only radially but also at an angle. The thread does not have to be turned. As a result, a dense and improved flocking is achieved all around the yarn or thread in a simple and economical manner.

  • Patent number: 4613087
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting scrap tires and other waste products is disclosed. The apparatus includes a frame having a cylindrical anvil roll rotatably mounted therein. A pair of blade rolls are also mounted in the frame for rotation about corresponding axes which are parallel to the rotational axis of the anvil roll, the blade rolls being angularly spaced from one another relative to the axis of the anvil roll and being positioned about the periphery of the anvil roll. The blade rolls are each provided with a plurality of blades of predetermined diameter fixed thereto and rotatable therewith, the blades of one blade roll being at a low angle to the axis of that roll and the blades of the other blade roll being at a high angle to the axis of that roll, so that a tire passing between both blade rolls and the anvil roll will be cut into rhomboidal pieces that are nearly rectangular in shape during a single pass through the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4593557
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for the evaluation and diagnosis of tire contributions to annoying erratic motions of a vehicle, which motions are induced when the vehicle travels over longitudinally grooved pavement. The apparatus utilizes a vehicle the forward end of which is supported on a laterally movable carriage, with freedom to yaw, and the rear end of which carries a loaded test tire and an axially spaced companion tire on respective curcumferentially grooved and circumferentially smooth tire driving means. Sensor means are provided to measure transverse or angular motions or displacements generated as the test tire moves laterally across the grooved drive surfaces in response to lateral movement of the carriage.
