The first side wall also includes a first rolling mechanism. The emergency escape slide container also includes a second portion having a second end wall and a second side wall, the second side wall and the second end wall defining a second storage space sized and shaped to receive the emergency escape slide. The second side wall also includes a second rolling mechanism. The first portion and the second portion cooperate to define a third storage space therebetween, the third storage space being equal to a combination of the first storage space and the second storage space.

    Abstract: A user may check-in to an international flight and receive an electronic boarding pass using captured travel document information. If the travel document information has not been captured, the travel document information may be captured from a travel document by one of visual image capture or wireless communication. Visual image capture includes capturing an image of the travel document, performing optical character recognition (OCR) on the image of the travel document to extract text; and storing the extracted text on a computer-readable medium. Wireless communication includes receiving travel document information from a wireless communication device included in the travel document. The captured travel document information is compared to a list of registered passengers to determine if the passenger associated with the travel document is registered for the international flight. If the passenger is determined to be registered for the first international flight an electronic boarding pass is generated.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for an automatic check-in using radio-frequency (RF) identification cards are disclosed. Passengers who fly frequently are issued RF identification cards, which may be detected by detectors stationed in the lobby of an airport or at a boarding gate. When a card is detected, a computer checks the identification of the passenger against a passenger list for the flight that is presently boarding. If there is a match, the passenger is automatically checked in, a signal is given, and the passenger proceeds to board the flight. The method, and the RF check-in system, may also be used for other conveyances, such as cruise ships, railroad journeys, bus trips, or other modes of mass transit.

A baggage receiving area is attached near an end of the slide near ground level for receiving and retaining baggage. The receiving area includes a flexible member extending substantially across the receiving area for stopping the sliding of the baggage and which absorbs the impact of the baggage.

    Abstract: A system and method for generating a minimum-cost airline flight plan from a point of origin through a set of fix points to a destination point. A set of navigation airways from the point of origin to the destination point, including predefined fix points and vectors for high altitude flight, and a set of predetermined flight planning altitudes is stored in a database. Operational data for the flight and weather data for the flight is also stored in the database, as well as station data, station approach and departure procedures, predefined flight restricted areas, and flight performance data. The predefined fix points are transformed from the Cartesian plane onto a new coordinate system based on the great circle route between the origin and the destination. Each transformed fix point is assigned an ordinal value, and an acyclic network is constructed based on the ordinal values and within a feasible search region which excludes any flight restricted areas.

    Abstract: Apparatus for inert gas shielded arc welding having a plenum with an outlet covered by a gas lens. An electrode provides electric current to the part being welded. The gas lens can overlie the lip of the plenum to prevent ambient air from being drawn into the gas envelope and contaminating the weld. The plenum can be teardrop shaped, having sidewalls which converge toward the trailing end. To enable the torch to weld a circumferential surface which is confined by an overhang, the inert gas is introduced near the leading edge of the plenum by a U-shaped conduit which circumvents the overhang. The plenum is much wider than it is deep and the flow of inert gas for shielding can be turned generally perpendicular to the direction of its introduction. Finally, the inert gas introduced into the plenum can be directed at an electrode post within the plenum, and the lip introducing the inert gas into the plenum can have a trailing edge which projects further into the plenum than does its leading edge.
