  • Patent number: 5694812
Abstract: A multi-functional apparatus employs an electromagnetic device. The electromagnetic device selectively causes movement of an intermittent motion mechanism thereby moving a mechanical device coupled thereto. In another aspect of the present invention, a single electric motor selectively actuates three intermittent motion mechanisms thereby causing three mechanical devices coupled thereto to operate. In a further aspect of the present invention, a clutch mechanism selectively drives a window wiper. A method for operating the multi-functional apparatus of the present invention is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5694678
Abstract: A family of retainer clip holders can each be adjusted to properly position a retainer clip at a desired location on a wire harness. In the past, it has sometimes been complicated to properly position a retainer clip holder relative to the base, and mount the holder base on a jig for assembling wire harnesses. There have typically been too many fixtures required on the jig. Thus, the prior art has attempted to assemble the retainer clips by individually tailoring hundreds of retainer clip holders for the particular orientation demanded by the particular retainer clip application. The inventive family of retainer clip holders allows the selection of the proper adjustable retainer clip holders and the adjustment of that retainer clip holder to accommodate the particular retainer clip application demanded. In this way, the invention replaces the hundreds of previously required holders with seven basic tools.

  • Patent number: 5696828
Abstract: The present invention teaches a method of generating a plurality of random numbers is disclosed. The method comprises the initial step of generating chaotic noise. Subsequently, the chaotic noise is sampled such that a plurality of samples are created. Each sample of the plurality of samples is then converted into digital data such that each converted sample corresponds with a random number of the plurality of random numbers.

  • Patent number: 5691695
Abstract: A vehicle steering wheel is provided with a thin reconfigurable display such as an LED, an LCD, an electro-luminescent display, or other types of reconfigurable thin display. Vehicle instrument information such as speedometer, fuel level, vehicle temperature, engine speed, etc. are provided on this display. The reconfigurable display is provided with a control that reconfigures the location of the information on the display. The control is provided with a signal indicative of rotation of the steering wheel, and the control takes that signal and adjusts the information such that the displayed information maintains a particular orientation relative to the horizontal during a turn. With the present invention, the vehicle operator need only consult the vehicle steering wheel to obtain information about the vehicle condition. There are thus less constraints on the design of the steering wheel, and in the requirement of providing visual access to the instrument panel.

  • Patent number: 5649014
Abstract: The pseudorandom process iteratively applies a selected CRC encryption process on the information to be encrypted. The encryption process is selected by testing one of the digits comprising the number to be encrypted. A first encryption process is used if the tested digit is a 1; a second encryption process is used if the tested digit is a 0. The process is repeated a plurality of times, e.g. once for each digit in the number to be encrypted, resulting in a highly encrypted value that is not easily reverse engineered by chosen or known plaintext attack.

  • Patent number: 5646996
Abstract: Loss of synchronization between transmitter and receiver of a remote entry system is detected during the communication sequence between transmitter and receiver, by generating a checksum of the authentication code at the initiation of the communication sequence and comparing it with a checksum previously stored. If the checksums do not match an automatic resynchronization sequence is begun in which random numbers are generated by the transmitter and broadcast to the receiver for subsequent use as rolling code or linear feedback shift register variables.

  • Patent number: 5646385
Abstract: A stalk switch assembly mountable on a steering column of a vehicle includes a base having a track mounting a control stalk. The control stalk includes a collar received on the track, which moves along the track. In a preferred embodiment, the track defines a pivot point for the control stalk, wherein the pivot point is spaced from the stalk and track. The control stalk makes selective electric contact with contact points on the base. When moving contacts come in contact with the electric contact points, the electric switch is actuated or is deactivated. This switch is most beneficially used for the turn signal of a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5644182
Abstract: A brush holder apparatus and method for biasing a brush outwardly of a brush box. A brush box cover is slidingly disposed over an electrical cable along with a coil spring. Next, a brush shunt is electrically secured to an end portion of the electrical cable by a crimp member. The brush box cover is then slidably urged towards a brush secured at a terminal end of the brush shunt. This causes the brush shunt to be folded so as to place it in general longitudinal alignment and parallel with the electrical cable. The brush box cover is then further slid along the electrical cable, thus urging the spring over the brush shunt and into engagement with the brush electrically secured at the terminal (i.e., outer) end portion of the brush shunt. The brush box cover is further slid along the electrical cable until the crimp member and a portion of the brush shunt become wedgingly engaged in a portion of the brush box cover, to thereby hold the spring in a compressed condition between the brush box cover and the brush.

  • Patent number: 5639054
Abstract: An exterior side-mounted rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror shell having a sleeve mounted on a pivot cup. The pivot cup is selectively rotatable about the central axis of a post fixed to a vehicle. The assembly has complementary interlocking structure located at the base of the pivot cup and adjacent the base of the post. In combination with a spring and retainer which holds the spring against the pivot cup, these complementary structures allow for the selective rotation of the pivot cup about the post. The shell is mounted to the pivot cup in a non-rotatable fashion, by simply sliding the sleeve onto the pivot cup. The method of assembling the mirror assembly is thus simplified.

  • Patent number: 5629029
Abstract: The plastic substrate portion of the part is formed by a first injection of plastic into a mold, so as to adhere to an overlying sheet of coverstock material. A portion of the coverstock is not initially adhered to the substrate. A second injection of plastic forms the undecorated portion of the part, and bonds to the substrate portion to form a unitary plastic panel. In the course of contacting the substrate portion, the plastic from the second injection folds and hides the non-adhered portion of the cover stock, thereby forming a neat, clean split line.

  • Patent number: 5624271
Abstract: An interlock plate is received on an electrical connector which includes a latch to be received in a channel on a mating electrical connector. The plate is selectively movable between locked and unlocked positions, and prevents movement of the latch outwardly of the channel when in the locked position. The electrical connection is made by connecting the two electrical connectors, with the latch moving into the channel. During this initial connection, the plate is received on the electrical connector in the unlocked position. The plate is then moved to the locked position, where it remains while the electrical connection is maintained. At that position, abutments on the plate and the connector prevent movement of the latch outwardly of the channel. Should it be desired to disconnect the electrical connection, the plate is initially moved back to its unlocked position, and the connectors may then be separated.
