Patent number: 5061869Abstract: A method of assembling a motor to an object, a motor housing, and an electric motor are disclosed, each of which uses a hollow fastener to secure the motor housing to form an integral unit. Thru bolts are retained within the hollow fastener such that the thru bolts may thereafter be utilized to mount the motor to another object without requiring disassembly of the motor. Additionally disclosed are retainers for securing the thru bolts within the fastener during those time periods between motor assembly and assembly of the motor to an object to which it is to be mounted.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1987Date of Patent: October 29, 1991Assignee: United Technologies Electro Systems, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth W. Patent number: 4927203Abstract: An improved sealing and attachment means between a rubber boot (20) for a powdered door lock (4) and its actuator rod (10), which allows, not only radial, linear movement of the rod with respect to its power motor, but also rotational movement of the rod within its attachment to the boot, allowing such rotation without significantly distorting the boot. Two, axially spaced grooves (13 & 14) are located on the exterior surface of the rod at the area (15) to which the boot is to be attached, while two longitudinally spaced annular beads (22 & 23) are provided on the interior surface of the end portion (21) of the boot, which beads will be located between, but not in, the grooves. Two ring clips (16 & 17), serving as radially extended retainers, are placed in the rod grooves, fixedly positioning the attachment end portion of the boot longitudinally between the grooves. A gap (18) allows the ring clip to be laterally clipped onto its respective groove.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1989Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: United Technologies Electro Systems, Inc.Inventors: Ronald F. Patent number: 4885948Abstract: An electric motor actuator (10) has an armature shaft (18) with a damper (28) comprising a collar (30) fit tightly into a housing (14) and slid over the shaft (18). The damper (28) has a plurality of spring-like fingers (32) protruding from the collar (30) supporting tghe shaft (18) intermediate to its journaled extreme ends (24, 26) by exerting sufficient force to damp vibrations caused by rotation of the shaft and counter-act the tendency of the shaft to move radially. The damper (28) is formed of a resilient, self-lubricating material impervious to grease, so as to isolate electrical motor parts from greased gears driven by the armature shaft.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1988Date of Patent: December 12, 1989Assignee: United Technologies Electro Systems, Inc.Inventors: Robert P. Patent number: 4793640Abstract: A door lock system for a motor vehicle including a latching and locking means is disclosed. A cam means is driven about a pivot point by the engagement of gear projections with a slot in the cam means to effect locking and unlocking of the door lock. The cam means and the gear projections are separated once the door lock is in the locked or unlocked position to allow the door lock to be manually displaced without necessitating the rotational translation of the gear or the electric motor driving the gear.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1986Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: United Technologies Electro Systems, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth W. Stewart, Sr.

Patent number: 4664217Abstract: A shift actuator for a vehicle transfer case includes a bidirectional electric motor for positioning gearing in the transfer case. An indicator mechanism associated with the drive train between the motor and the transfer case provides electrical signals indicative of the actual position in, and thus operating state, of the gearing in the transfer case. A selector switch provides electrical signals indicative of a desired operating state of the transfer case gearing. An electronic control is responsive to an input from the selector switch and to the indicator mechanism for effecting rotation of the motor in a predetermined one or other direction to attain the desired operating state. The indicator mechanism includes a contact plate, which rotates with the drive train, and a set of stationary contacts. A conductive pattern on the contact plate identifies the positioning of the operating states of the transfer case gearing.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1984Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Assignee: United Technologies Electro Systems, Inc.Inventors: David W.
