Abstract: A method is provided for integrating e-mail and browser communications with the user in a computer network including a user's computer and a control server connected for communication, the user's computer running an e-mail program and a browser program. In an initial HTML e-mail communication with the user over the network, a signal is embedded which, upon operation of the HTML on the user's computer, causes transmission to the control server of an ID code signal available at the user's computer and uniquely associated with the user or his computer and, upon receiving the ID code signal at the control server, it is stored in association with information related to the user available to the control server. In a subsequent HTML communication with the user over the network, a signal is embedded which, upon operation of the HTML on the user's computer, causes transmission to the control server of the ID code signal, which is received at the control server.

The browser itself is tailored to the context in which it is being used, to provide for different functionalities in the browser tool bar, the functionality changing in association with different data such as a web page requested, web page content, the user demographic classification, age, location, or any other characteristic known or inferred by such provider. This mutation occurs according to factors preset by the user (surfer) or pushed by the provider or a third party authorized by a service or content provider.

  • Publication number: 20030038837
Abstract: HTML code is delivered in a received message or browser window which causes an invisible window to be created. More precisely, the window is at a coordinate which is beyond the coordinates on the computer screen and, therefore, is not visible to the user. The invisible window executes additional HTML code or may draw it through the Internet from a remote cite. The additional HTML code may produce further, invisible windows, which may be animated, and are independent of anything which appears on the computer screen. For example, the user may be presented a window on his screen which offers a free stock ticker, in exchange for being presented with periodic commercial messages.
