Patent number: 5865271Abstract: A telescopic ledger for scaffolding comprises an elongated ledger member of substantially uniform I-shape in cross section along its length, a front coupling sleeve attached to the ledger member adjacent its front end, and a channel assembly having a pair of elongated channel members and a rear coupling sleeve attached to the channel members proximate to their rear ends. The channel members are of the same substantially uniform U-shaped cross section along their lengths, each channel member having a web portion and side flange portions joined to and extending from side edges of the web portion. The channel members are joined to each other by the rear coupling sleeve in spaced-apart relation with their web portions in opposed relation and defining a cavity and with the side flange portions defining a gap. A portion of the ledger member adjacent to the front end is received in telescopic relation to portions of the channel members adjacent the rear ends of the channel members.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1997Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Assignee: Universal Builders Supply, Inc.Inventor: Alan J. Patent number: 5857543Abstract: A ledger truss for scaffolding has a first ledger and a second ledger, each ledger having a longitudinal axis and being of uniform generally "I" shape in cross section along its length. A clamp bracket joins the first and second ledgers end to end at a butt joint with their axes aligned. The upper end of a vertical strut is attached to the clamp bracket, and an end bracket is attached to the end of each ledger remote from the clamp bracket. At least one first tensioned tie bar joins the end bracket on the first ledger to the lower end of the vertical strut, and at least one second tensioned tie bar joins the end bracket on the second ledger to the lower end of the vertical strut.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1997Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: Universal Builders Supply, Inc.Inventor: Alan J. Patent number: 5135077Abstract: A basic scaffolding tower assembly for building up, in modular fashion, a multi-level scaffolding system includes a pair of load-bearing tower panels spaced from and parallel to the building facade. The tower panels are joined together by a pair of landing channels extending perpendicularly to the building facade, thereby forming a generally rectangular tower structure. The landing channels support a work deck running parallel to the building facade, and the tower panels are spaced apart sufficiently to provide a drive-through passageway along the work deck wise enough for motorized construction equipment. Extension members carried by the landing channels extend inwardly towards the building facade and support, in cantilever fashon, a four foot or wider work deck immediately adjacent the facade. The tower assembly components are made of aluminum and are sufficiently robust to support twenty or more work levels.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1991Date of Patent: August 4, 1992Assignee: Universal Builders Supply, Inc.Inventor: Alan J. Patent number: 4944365Abstract: A safety net system for multi-story building construction includes a plurality of post assemblies spaced around the perimeter of the building, each with a horizontal shaft at its lower end pivoted to a bracket attached to a lower floor of the building, and a safety net suspended between the outer, free ends of the post assemblies end the adjacent upper floor of the building. The horizontal shaft at the inner end of each post assembly is received in annular bearings having inner and outer sleeves and an elastic core therebetween. The bearings are releasably clamped about the horizontal shaft to restrain the post assembly against rotation and lock it in an upright, stowed position or an inclined, deployed position. The resiliency of the elastic core permits limited, upward rotation of the post assembly to absorb shocks from falling debris.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1989Date of Patent: July 31, 1990Assignee: Universal Builders Supply, Inc.Inventor: Alan J.
