The first mode operates in a standard way to display an image or video or otherwise illuminate sub-pixels of the panel. In the second mode, some pixels are operated at a lower brightness than in the first mode. The use of multiple modes allows for improved sub-pixel lifetime and reduced sub-pixel and image degradation.
