  • Patent number: 4716327
Abstract: An electric motor comprising a shell supporting a stator and end members rotatably supporting a rotor. The end members are fastened to the shell in a manner such that the end members are accurately positioned longitudinally of the shell and the center of the end member is accurately positioned relative to the axis of the shell. One end member includes an annular portion spaced from the periphery which extends axially outwardly, and a radially axially extending portion that extends axially inwardly. An annular bearing seat is fixed thereto and a roller bearing is interposed between the bearing seat and the shaft. The other end member is provided with an annular wall spaced from the periphery, and a radial wall which supports a self-aligning bearing. An external oil catcher cover frictionally engages the annular wall of one end member and extends radially inwardly into overlying relation with the self-aligning bearing.

The composite washer comprises a base layer of plastic filament material, a layer of resilient elastic material bonded to one surface of the base layer, and an oil impregnated layer bonded to the other surface of the base layer and engaging said bearing member, whereby oil from the bearing passes through the base layer in capillary fashion and upon rotation is directed in small droplets toward said oil reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4529901
Abstract: An electric motor comprising a lower housing, and an upper housing. The lower housing comprises a hollow stationary shaft, and a stator mounted on the shaft. The upper housing comprises, a tube rotatably mounted on the shaft and a rotor fixed on the tube and surrounding the stator for rotation about the shaft. A thrust bearing is interposed between the end of the tube and the lower housing. Longitudinally upper and lower spaced bearings are interposed between the tube and the hollow shaft. An oil holding element is interposed between the bearings. An oil sump means is provided in the lower housing associated with the lower bearing such that oil flowing out of the holding element collects in the oil sump.

  • Patent number: 4505031
Abstract: The method of assembling an electric motor which comprises forming an upper housing assembly by first forming a generally cylindrical shell, forming an end member with an axial tube, mounting the end member on the cylindrical shell with the tube extending axially inwardly, locating the shell radially in an accurate position with respect to the axis of the shell, fastening the end member to the shell to form an upper housing assembly, mounting a radial wall on a hollow shaft, accurately locating a stator on the radial wall so that the stator and the outer diameter of the shaft are in accurate concentric relationship, fixing the stator in this accurate position to form a lower housing assembly, telescoping the upper assembly over the shaft of the lower housing assembly and interposing bearings between the shaft and the tube so that the upper housing assembly is in accurate concentric relationship with the stator.

  • Patent number: 4504754
Abstract: An electric motor comprising a casing, a stator mounted in the casing, a rotor, and end members rotatably mounting the rotor with respect to the stator. At least one of the end members is cast and comprising an integral hub a plurality of radially inwardly extending portions from the inner surface of the hub defining a bearing seat and a plurality of axially extending ribs on the inner surface of the hub having slots machined therein defining a surface in each rib that is accurately spaced axially with respect to the seat. A substantially flat spring member is positioned so that its annular periphery engages the surfaces. The spring member has radially inwardly extending fingers engaging the bearing in the seat.

  • Patent number: 4104550
Abstract: A submersible motor comprising a first housing including a motor and a second housing enclosing electrical connections between the motor and a jacketed electrical cord to the second housing. The first housing has a cavity therein in the periphery thereof. A body of compressible resilient elastomeric material is positioned in the cavity and has an exterior configuration and dimensions which conform generally with the configuration and dimensions of the cavity. The body has a plurality of generally axial passages therein through which the magnet wires from the motor extend. The wires have a diameter so that they can be readily inserted through the passages in the body. The second housing has an annular wall extending axially through the open end of the cavity in the first housing and operable, when the second housing is in mounted position on the first housing, to compress the body radially into tight conformity with the wires from the motor.

  • Patent number: 3975654
Abstract: A shaded pole electric motor comprising a rotor, a stator. The stator has a plurality of generally radially extending poles each with a neck portion of lesser circumferential extent than the radially innermost ends of the poles. Adjacent neck portions of the poles form a kidney slot for receiving portions of stator windings. A main winding is wound around the neck portion of each pole. A shading coil slot which has its radially innermost end nearer the pole center than its radially outermost end. A shading coil and winding is positioned in such a manner that no portion of the main winding overlies the axially outer ends of the shading coil.
