    Abstract: In the needle selection device on a knitting machine equipped with a Jacqd mechanism, the knitting needles can be brought into various positions in which they are inactive, or are active for knitting, for forming tuck loops and for the transfer of stitches, with the aid of cam means on the carriage. In order to create a needle selection device which is simple in structure and is functionally reliable, blocking levers corresponding in number to the number of needle channels and arranged in accordance with the gauge of the needle separation are provided on a mounting rib extending over the length of the needle bed. At each selection position, on the carriage, there is provided a cam element for pivoting the blocking lever and also an electromagnet controllable for needle selection and having associated therewith a tripping pin for pivoting the blocking lever.

    Abstract: A straight knitting machine having two needle beds with knocking-over combs isposed in an inverted V-shaped configuration and a sliding carriage located above said needle beds is further provided with horizontal stop edges on said combs beneath the crossover zone of the needles associated with said needle beds for preventing the upward movement of the knitted piece upon activation of the needles. A pair of rotatable heads are mounted on a common support movable with said carriage with each head having a layering device mounted thereon and displaced 90.degree. from a stripping device and a hold down device which are also mounted on each rotatable head. The heads are rotatable at the end of each traversing movement of the carriage so as to locate the layering device and hold down device of one head in advance of the knitting zone and the layering device of the other head in trailing relation to the knitting zone during a subsequent pass of the carriage.

    Abstract: A system for checking the functional state of the operating magnets in a tbed knitting machine includes a microprocessor, a keyboard, a display unit, and sensors detecting short-circuit and open-circuit conditions in the magnets and their connections. In order to avoid dismantling the machine to check the magnets, the magnets are subjected in turn to pulse sequences at respective different frequencies and their behavior is monitored. One can monitor the vibrational noise of the magnets or the rise time of current and voltage in the magnets. The checking process can be initiated automatically, for example each time the machine is started up, or controlled manually via the keyboard. Frequencies within the range of 1 to 50 Hz are preferably used.

    Abstract: A left-left flat knitting machine is comprised of two needle beds and kning needle sets arranged in a common plane, with needle hooks provided on both ends of the needles and with bars to activate the knitting needles in the needle bed channels of both needle beds. The knitting needles are formed as double hook needles 1 with two needle humps 10, 11 and the bars are formed as push bars 2, 5 composed of respective stitch transfer bars 3, 6 and tongue bars 4, 7 with integral feet. The structure assures simpler construction of the knitting needles and the tools which activate them and also enables the use of any desired knitting steps for the pattern. According to a further development of the double hook needle 1, a short control tongue 60, 61 is hingedly connected at each needle hump 10, 11.

    Abstract: As the carriage of a flatbed knitting machine traverses the needle bed, a lse generator which comprises a toothed disc and two cycle signallers at its circumference produces pulses in synchronism with the carriage movement and corresponding to the needle cycle for electronic control of the machine. The toothed disc has a tooth pitch which corresponds in whole number multiples with the pitch of the needles in the bed. The pulse generator may be located on the machine frame or on the carriage. In the former case the carriage can have a pick-up which entrains a chain stretched on the machine frame with the toothed disc rotatable jointly with one of the sprocket wheels for the chain. In the latter case the toothed disc, carried by the carriage may be rotated by a coupled pinion which meshes with a rack stationary on the frame and co-extensive with the traverse of the carriage. In each case the pulse generator produces synchronized control pulses without direct scanning of the needles in the bed.

    Abstract: In a flat knitting machine having an electrically controlled selecting dee for the needles, the selecting jacks (11) controlling the needles are movably mounted in the needle grooves of the needle bed in the same direction as the needles and include staggered feet which form foot rows in the longitudinal direction of the needle bed. For each of the foot rows a control element is provided on the carriage, which can be moved into and out of operative position between adjacent feet of a foot row.
