  • Patent number: 11510796
Abstract: A horseshoe-shaped guide catheter for stent angioplasty of the ductus arteriosus in newborn and infants with ductal-dependent cardiopathies, characterized by a long, straight, hollow first section merged at the distal end thereof to a second section formed by a curved portion shaped as a circle section with radius (Ra) of 7.5 mm to 9 mm, arc (b) of 180° to 280° and distance (d) between the tip of the second section and the straight part of the first section without deformations of 7 mm and 15 mm. The angioplasty makes it possible to insert one or more stents that keep the ductus open in extrauterine life, improving survival of the newborn and young infants, allowing weight gain and undergo corrective surgery a few months later with safer and with better outcomes.

  • Patent number: 11155822
Abstract: A transposon (TnC_T7) was developed to partially supply the transcriptional machinery during functional analysis of genomic/metagenomic libraries. This transposon was conceived and constructed to have the ability to integrate randomly into any episomal DNA, allowing the inducible expression of the adjacent DNA regions in both directions. In general, this genetic tool included a kanamycin resistance gene, two bidirectional T7 promoters and the T7RNA polymerase-coding gene, the latter under the regulation of the inducible arabinose promoter (PBAD). The experimental validation confirmed the TnC_T7 potential to be used in functional genomic/metagenomic studies, in order to partially overcome the limitations of the bacterial hosts, which prevent them to recognize most of foreign genes from DNA libraries.

  • Patent number: 11035864
Abstract: The present invention is focused on an in vitro method for identifying or screening human subjects at risk of suffering from a pregnancy related disease, in particular from gestational diabetes mellitus or preeclampsia, departing from the level of expression or concentration of a series of biomarkers isolated from a minimally-invasive sample such as gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). Moreover, the method of the invention offers high sensitivity and specificity at an early stage of the pregnancy (see the Examples and figures shown below), which means that it is a strong and cost-effective method for the detection of a pregnancy related disease, in particular gestational diabetes mellitus or preeclampsia, at an early stage of the disease thus procuring effective treatment, avoiding significant long-term adverse effects for both mother and baby.

  • Patent number: 10688694
Abstract: The present invention overcomes all the above drawbacks and provides a versatile method for the fabrication of multilayer hollow tubes that uses a layer-by-layer rod dipping approach using different biomaterials. The device enables fine control over fabrication parameters, such as ascending/descending speeds, rod rotational velocity, and crosslinking or polymerization time. All these technologies allows the generation of more complex multilayer hollow tubes such as vessel-like structures, urethral grafting, prostate grafting and the like.

  • Publication number: 20200171432
Abstract: The invention relates to a filtering apparatus and method for treating polluted indoor air, which can be operated by gas scrubbers, adsorbers, or through the use of a microbial biodegrading medium for polluting gases, wherein said apparatus allows the biofiltration method to be efficient and applicable in indoor spaces. The technical problem of the efficiency of the filter has to do with said filter being able to process the greatest amount of pollutants during a minimum residence time and with a filter bed volume that allows the application thereof in apparatus that have an adequate size for indoor spaces, such as spaces inside the household, i.e., allowing the reactor to operate at maximum capacity without having to increase the size thereof.

  • Patent number: 10007985
Abstract: A computer-based method is herein disclosed, allowing to differentiate automatically between two tissues of interest: an extrinsic and an intrinsic tissue, from a plurality of images, obtaining a quantitative assessment of each of said tissues without requiring the intervention of an expert. Said method involves the definition of a differentiation region in images obtained from a medical imaging acquisition device using a parametric contour, after which differentiation and quantification are carried out based on the photometric characteristics of the different tissues observed in images, evaluating the local neighborhood of each voxel belonging to the differentiation region previously defined in the plurality of images. The disclosed method increases to a great extent precision in differentiation and quantification of tissues, while the shown percentage error is considered tolerable for diagnostic purposes.
