Abstract: The invention relates to a process for generating a porous material having homogeneous, gas-containing inclusions in the micrometer and sub-micrometer range, and also to the material produced by such process.
Abstract: The transporter that translocates ergothioneine has been identified. Described are methods for identifying and obtaining compounds capable of modulating ergothioneine transport as well as the use of such compounds for the treatment of diseases ergothioneine may be involved in such as autoimmune diseases, in particular rheumatoid arthritis, as well as other diseases arising from cell damage caused by radiation, radicals and relative oxidant species. Furthermore, diagnostic means and methods for determining the presence or susceptibility to such a disease are provided.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing an electronic device having two contacts, an anode and a cathode being completely or partly transmissive to light, one or more organic semi-conducting layers and one or more organic buffer layers between the contacts or the cathode and anode respectively. A solution is sprayed which contains organic material for applying at least one porous layer.
Abstract: Substituted tricyclic diproline analogues of the formula (I): wherein the variables are as defined herein. Also disclosed are methods for the production thereof, the use thereof for the induction of an alpha-helix conformation in peptides and/or proteins, pharmaceuticals containing said compounds, methods for the production of a peptide library containing said compounds, and peptide libraries containing said compounds.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with the improvement of aghcobiological traits in plants. More specifically, it relates to a plant cell comprising in its chloroplasts enzymatic activities for converting glycolate into malate. Preferably, said plant cell comprises a first polypeptide having glycolat oxidase activity, a second polypeptide having malate synthase activity and a third polypeptide having catalase activity or a first polypeptide having glycolat dehydrogenase activity and a second polypeptide having malate synthase activity. Also encompassed is a plant comprising said plant cells as well as seeds obtainable from the said plants. The present invention, furthermore, relates to a method for producing a transgenic plant or a plant cell having an increased water use efficiency or increased yield. The present invention contemplates polynucleotides comprising a combination of nucleic acids encoding the aforementioned polypeptides as well as vectors comprising the polynucleotides and uses thereof.

Abstract: A process for producing an encapsulated detector operating in an ultra high vacuum (UHV) for gamma (.gamma.) spectroscopy, wherein a detector is placed into a detector chamber portion of a detector containment pot and a lid is placed into the containment pot and both are joined by electron beam welding under vacuum at their top in such a way, that the detector is not exposed to excessive heat and that the vapors generated during welding are condensed before they can reach the detector chamber, whereby a detector capsule capable of maintaining an ultra high vacuum can be produced.
