Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for detecting a psychiatric condition optionally associated with a depression comprising the steps of measuring the concentration of at least one in vivo degradation product of tryptophan. Further, the present invention relates to the use of said values as predictive markers for the detection of a psychiatric condition optionally associated with a depression and a kit containing means for detecting said values.
