    Abstract: The present invention relates to the proline rich transmembrane protein 2 (PRRT2) gene, and the identification of mutations and variations in PRRT2 that give rise to seizure and movement disorders. Accordingly, the present invention provides methods for the diagnosis or prognosis of such disorders by identifying alterations in the PRRT2 gene. Identification of alterations in the PRRT2 gene also enables the identification of subjects with an increased likelihood of having an offspring predisposed to such disorders. The present invention also provides an isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising an alteration in the PRRT2 gene, wherein said alteration produces a seizure and/or movement disorder phenotype. Also provided is an isolated PRRT2 polypeptide that comprises an alteration which produces a seizure and/or movement disorder phenotype.

    Abstract: A method of producing a dried formulation for an active substance such as a drug compound is described. The method involves dispersing a discontinuous phase (e.g. an oil-based or lipidic medium) comprising the active substance into a continuous phase (e.g. water) so as to form a two-phase liquid system comprising droplets of said discontinuous phase, allowing nanoparticles to congregate at the phase interface at the surface of the droplets such that at least one layer of nanoparticles coat the droplets and thereby provide sufficient structural integrity to the droplets to enable the subsequent removal of the continuous phase, and thereafter removing the continuous phase from the nanoparticle-coated droplets to produce a dried formulation.

    Abstract: A multiple access slotted wireless communication system comprising a plurality of terminals and a multi-access receiver is described. The multi-access receiver can decode multiple transmissions in each slot of a frame from terminals in its field of view. Each terminal has an active state for transmitting and an inactive state. After receiving acknowledgement of a successful transmission by the terminal, the terminal enters the inactive state for at least a transmission delay time. This may be the remaining time that the terminal is in the field of view of the multi-access receiver. This may be achieved by the terminal using a probability of transmission to determine whether or not to transmit in the next frame. The terminal may also be configured to select the slot in a frame, and this may be based upon information such as which slots were acknowledged. The receiver may use compression to transmit acknowledgement messages.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for improving the calibration of multiple projector systems in Spatial Augmented Reality systems where multiple projectors are used to project images directly onto objects of interest. The methods and system described herein improve the calibration of multiple projector systems in order to improve the alignment and clarity of projected images by reducing ghosting that can occur with poorly aligned projectors. The system uses a planar photodiode and the projector is used to project a plurality of projection regions, such as scan lines, across the planar photodetector and calculating the position based on weighting measurements by the measured light intensity and projected images in SAR.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in communication systems using recursive modulation schemes with a Low Density Generator Matrix code (including an irregular repeat accumulate (IRA) code) are described that have reduced complexity and thus reduced cost compared to prior art systems. A communication system is described in which the transmitter concatenates a low density generator matrix code with an accumulator followed by a recursive modulator in order to eliminate the use of an interleaver, and in which the receiver combines the decoder for the accumulator and the soft demodulator into a single joint decoder in order reduce the number of components and complexity. Another variation is also described in which the transmitter is further simplified by eliminated the accumulator altogether, and in which the receiver is further simplified by replacing the joint decoder with a soft demodulator prior to the LDGM soft decoder.

    Abstract: A least squares estimator of carrier phase and amplitude in a receiver in a communication system using a phase shift keying modulation scheme that uses both known pilot symbols and unknown data symbols is described. That is, the method exploits knowledge of pilot symbols in addition to the unknown data symbols to estimate carrier phase and amplitude. Further, an efficient recursion based estimation method is described that only requires O(L. log L) arithmetic operations where L is the number of received signals. This method uses the M-Ary rounded phase offsets to sort the data symbols and this sorted order is used to recursively calculate candidate values in an optimization process. Simulation results show that the estimation methods Using data and pilot symbols outperform estimation methods using only data symbols (ie non-coherent detection methods). Further, the system can be used for systems using multiple M-ary phase shift keying digital modulation schemes.

    Abstract: User input gloves and input methods are described that are well suited to provide input to computer modeling (eg CAD) and augmented reality (AR) systems, including wearable AR and spatial AR. Each glove comprises palm mounted ultrasonic transducers, accelerometers, finger based pinch inputs and a wireless communication module. The gloves can be used to measure distances over the natural range of distances that hands can be placed, as well as their orientation, with sufficient resolution to facilitate a range of gesture based input methods to be developed and utilized, including distance-based modeling by measurement. Further the gloves are light weight, allow fast input of modeling measurements, are easy to use, and reduce fatigue compared to existing glove based input systems. The user input gloves, and associated input techniques can be used to measure small and body sized objects using one or two hands, and large objects can be measured using single handed measurements.

    Abstract: Parallel analog to digital converted (ADC) architectures that can be used to replace single path ADC architectures. The parallel ADC architecture can comprise N branches and one ADC per branch. These ADCs can be identical. However each branch can have a different path adjustments applied to the ADC. The path adjustments can be biases and/or gains and each ADC receives a different combination of biases and/or gain to generate multiple adjusted input signals. These are then combined to generate a quantized output signal. Using these parallel architectures a range of weighting and offset combining schemes can be employed to achieve improvements in signal to noise ratio and to reduce the impact of clipping as compared to a single path ADC architecture.
