  • Patent number: 7298488
Abstract: The present invention provides a sensing method and device based on sensing surface plasmon resonance which can be controlled by the electro-optical modulation. In the case of an integrated-optic device according to the present invention, a voltage is applied on an electro-optical crystal substrate surface with waveguides to modulate the surface plasmon resonance condition on the sensing waveguide. Concentrations of chemicals or bio-chemicals contained in a sample placed on the sensing waveguide can be determined by measuring the dependence of the output light intensity on the applied voltage. Because spectrometer is not needed for measuring the surface plasmon resonance wavelength, drawbacks of conventional integrated-optic surface plasmon resonance sensors, like limited sensitivity, high cost and restrictions on circumstances for measuring, are avoided. The present invention can be applied for real-time dynamic analyses on sample's changes.

  • Patent number: 7289254
Abstract: The present invention features a method and device for measuring characteristics of the human eye, particularly spherical refractive error. The device comprises a recorded hologram of an array of elements each bearing an identifying indicia. When the reconstructed hologram is viewed by a subject each of the indicia appear at different virtual distances. By indicating which indicia appear to be in focus the spherical refractive error of the eye and the range of accommodation is determined. The indicia are conveniently numbers that indicate dioptres. Also described is an apparatus for working the method. The apparatus can also be used to determine cylinder power and axis, binocular refraction and stereopsis.

  • Publication number: 20070250286
Abstract: A motion analysis system (10) in which sensor elements (20) attached to movable body segments record movement parameters including angular velocity and acceleration. A control device (40) receives the movement parameters and determines an overall motion of the movable body segments. The overall motion is analysed against an acceptable motion model to determine whether the overall motion is within acceptable limits. The sensor elements (20) and control device (40) are lightweight and can be worn during normal movement activities thereby allowing monitoring of work-based activities, such as lifting or typing. The invention is useful for detecting and correcting problems leading to lower back disorders and repetitive strain injuries.

  • Publication number: 20070221886
Abstract: The invention provides a kind of polymer grafted long afterglow phosphor which composed of alkali earth aluminate phosphor grafted by polymer through coordination bond and a method for producing the same. The method for producing a polymer grafted phosphor comprise two steps: the alkali earth aluminate activated by rare earth ions is coordinated with difunctional ligand to form a coordinated long afterglow phosphor; The coordinated long afterglow phosphor was dispersed in organic solvent at 40˜130° C., the ligand was initiated by initiator and could copolymerize with other polymerizable monomer to form the polymer grafted long afterglow phosphor. The formed phosphors have good water resistance and luminescent properties. They can be widely used in fields of luminescent coatings, paints and plastics.

  • Patent number: 7259871
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus and a method for rapid and precise scanning of the three-dimensional (3-D) profile of a dental cast. Disclosed is a measurement apparatus comprising two symmetrically arranged optical projection units and plural image capturing units each including optical components and optical lenses. The geometrical relationship between the optical projection units and the plaster dental cast are such arranged to ensure precise projection of laser beams and comprehensive measurement. The plural image capturing units serve to capture the reflected, structured light patterns, based on which patterns a 3-D occlusal profile is rapidly and precisely calculated through the triangulation principle, thereby allowing efficient and precise measurement of the 3-D occlusal profile of the plaster dental cast.

  • Patent number: 7247998
Abstract: A sensor system adapted to detect unwanted transients in the primary side of a luminous lamp load driving circuit and effect a change in operation of the driving circuit. A detection circuit is adapted to detect a transient, determine if it is an appropriate end-of-life lamp condition requiring action, and signal an inverter control circuit to provide for an adjustment or shut down of the load driving circuitry. The detection circuit is adapted to detect the transients across the direct current choke as repetitive transients occurring over a period of time. The inverter control circuit includes a negative voltage generator adapted to inhibit power flow into a transistor base inside the inverter. A modified start circuit is also provided with a restart inhibit circuit adapted to prevent the inverter from resuming normal operation after a shutdown condition has been detected.

  • Patent number: 7239094
Abstract: An electronic ballast includes a microcontroller with software to provide an adaptive lamp preheat and ignition operation. The microcontroller commands a test frequency from the inverter and detects the frequency response of the resonant output circuit by measuring the voltage across the resonant capacitor. The measured voltages are compared to one or more reference voltages as the frequency is varied to select the optimal inverter frequency. An algorithm or look-up table is used to set the inverter frequencies for the lamp preheat and ignition phases.

  • Patent number: 7231482
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring utility meter status, and transmitting a status message via an output device connected to a universal communications interface in the event that the utility meter status meets a predetermined condition. Typically, the predetermined condition is a power loss, signified by a drop in voltage or current. The system is connected to a utility meter, such as an electric meter. The voltage level of the electric meter is monitored through a voltage input interface. An analog-to-digital converter transforms the voltage waveform into a series of digital is data packets, which are then transmitted to a microprocessor. The microprocessor monitors the digital signal for a power loss indication, or other predetermined condition. Once a predetermined condition is met, the microprocessor transmits a status message across a universal serial bus to a universal communications interface.
