Abstract: A rotation type optical tomography scanner is provided, including an illuminating unit disposed on a surface of an object-to-be-detected for emitting incident light to tissues under the surface of the object-to-be-detected; a detecting unit disposed on the object-to-be-detected and rotating around the illuminating unit to receive diffuse light diffused from the tissues under the surface of the object-to-be-detected and generate tissue sensing information; and a positioning unit for generating position information of the rotation type optical tomography scanner. The rotation type optical tomography scanner transmits the sensing information and the position information to a remodel module to rebuild the tissue images under the surface of the object-to-be-detected, thereby expanding the scanning range of the object-to-be-detected.

Abstract: A computer readable storage medium having stored thereon an information processing program executable by a computer of an information processing device which presents information corresponding to a biological signal acquired from a user, is provided. The information processing program causes the computer to function as biological signal acquiring means, motion/attitude information acquiring means, and presentation means. The biological signal acquiring means acquires the biological signal from the user. The motion/attitude information acquiring means acquires information about a motion or an attitude of the user from detecting means, in association with the biological signal acquired by the biological signal acquiring means. The presentation means performs predetermined presentation based on both the biological signal acquired by the biological signal acquiring means and the information acquired by the motion/attitude information acquiring means.

Abstract: Large-area, flat-panel photo-detectors with sub-nanosecond time resolution based on microchannel plates are provided. The large-area, flat-panel photo-detectors enable the economic construction of sampling calorimeters with, for example, enhanced capability to measure local energy deposition, depth-of-interaction, time-of-flight, and/or directionality of showers. In certain embodiments, sub-nanosecond timing resolution supplies correlated position and time measurements over large areas. The use of thin flat-panel viewing radiators on both sides of a radiation-creating medium allows simultaneous measurement of Cherenkov and scintillation radiation in each layer of the calorimeter. The detectors may be used in a variety of applications including, for example, medical imaging, security, and particle and nuclear physics.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for detecting, recognizing, and positioning a zonal underground target in a mountain land environment by detecting a ridge position in the mountain land environment and carrying out energy correction. The method belongs to the interdisciplinary field of pattern recognition, remote sensing technology and terrain analysis. The zonal underground target can cause energy abnormity when the heat field thereof is different from that of a mountain mass, and the heat island effect of the ridge can also cause the energy of the mountain mass to be abnormal. However, the energy abnormity caused by the heat island effect is essentially different from the energy abnormity caused by the zonal underground target in the aspect of mode.

Abstract: A method of assessing parallel random number streams includes mixing two or more parallel random number streams. Mixing the parallel random number streams may include pairing at least one of the random number streams with other random number streams. For each mixed random number stream, an inter-stream correlation value may be computed based on a correlation among the random number steams used. A quality metric for the parallel random number streams may be determined from inter-stream correlation values for the two or more mixed streams created from the parallel random number streams. A quality metric for a single random number stream may be computed by segmenting the single random number stream into multiple substreams and applying the methods of mixing streams and computing quality metric in the case of parallel streams.

Abstract: A hearing device may provide hearing-to-touch sensory substitution as a therapeutic approach to deafness. Through use of signal processing on received signals, the hearing device may provide better accuracy with the hearing-to-touch sensory substitution by extending beyond the simple filtering of an incoming audio stream as found in previous tactile hearing aids. The signal processing may include low bitrate audio compression algorithms, such as linear predictive coding, mathematical transforms, such as Fourier transforms, and/or wavelet algorithms. The processed signals may activate tactile interface devices that provide touch sensation to a user. For example, the tactile interface devices may be vibrating devices attached to a vest, which is worn by the user. The vest may also provide other types of information to the user.

Abstract: A method of obtaining a mixture of cells enriched in hepatic progenitors is developed which comprises methods yielding suspensions of a mixture of cell types, and selecting those cells that are classical MHC class I antigen(s) negative and ICAM-1 antigen positive. The weak or dull expression of nonclassical MHC class I antigen(s) can be used for further enrichment of hepatic progenitors. Furthermore, the progenitors can be selected to have a level of side scatter, a measure of granularity or cytoplasmic droplets, that is higher than that in non-parenchymal cells, such as hemopoietic cells, and lower than that in mature parenchymal cells, such as hepatocytes. Furthermore, the progeny of the isolated progenitors can express alpha-fetoprotein and/or albumin and/or CK19. The hepatic progenitors, so isolated, can grow clonally, that is an entire population of progeny can be derived from one cell. The clones of progenitors have a growth pattern in culture of piled-up aggregates or clusters.
