Abstract: A method of forming a device with a piezoresistor is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the method includes providing a substrate, etching a trench in the substrate to form a vertical wall, growing a piezoresistor layer epitaxially on the vertical wall, and separating the vertical wall from an underlying layer of the substrate that extends along a horizontal plane such that the piezoresistor layer is movable with respect to the underlying layer within the horizontal plane.

Abstract: The invention relates to hardware decoders that efficiently expand a small number of input bits to a large number of output bits, while providing considerable flexibility in selecting the output instances. One main area of application of the invention is in pin-limited environments, such as field programmable gates array (FPGA) used with dynamic reconfiguration. The invention includes a mapping unit that is a circuit, possibly in combination with a reconfigurable memory device. The circuit has as input a z-bit source word having a value at each bit position and it outputs an n-bit output word, where n>z, where the value of each bit position of the n-bit output word is based upon the value of a pre-selected hardwired one of the bit positions in the x-bit word, where the said pre-selected hardwired bit positions is selected by a selector address.

Abstract: A method, information processing system, and computer program storage product apply agrochemicals to plants. A set of user defineable agrochemical application parameters are wirelessly received from a user. A set of data is received from a multiplicity of plant sensors. The set of data includes at least positional data associated with a multiplicity of plants with respect to a set of agrochemical applicators. At least speed data associated with a vehicle coupled to the set of agrochemical applicators is received. The set of agrochemical applicators is instructed to apply one or more agrochemicals to at least one plant in the multiplicity of plants based at least on the set of user defineable agrochemical application parameters that has been wirelessly received, the set of data from a multiplicity of plant sensors, and the speed data. The set of agrochemical applicators apply the one or more agrochemicals to at least one plant.

Abstract: Methods to use beta glucans in the culture of cell populations containing CD34+ cells in order to expand the numbers of CD34+ subsets of progenitor and stem cells are provided. Methods to improve homing and engraftment of stem and progenitor cells by first culturing the cells with beta glucans, or co-administering with beta glucans, are also provided. Additionally, methods to ameliorate chemotherapy toxicity and promote development of functionally active neutrophils by administering beta glucans are presented. The beta glucans are preferably extracted from maitake mushroom (Grifola frondosa).

Abstract: The invention provides novel compounds of formula I: that are opioid receptor ligands. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds as well as methods for treating diseases associated with opioid receptor function by administering such compounds to a mammal in need of treatment. Compounds of the invention are useful to modulate (e.g. agonize or antagonize) opioid receptor function.
Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions and methods for enhancing an immune response, for example to a vaccine, by combining the administration of oxygen (O2 gas), an adenosine pathway antagonist and/or an HIF-1? antagonist, and/or inhibitors of enzymes that produce or generate adenosine with the administration of the vaccine to the patient. The present invention also relates to methods of inducing or enhancing immune responses, methods of treating subjects having a tumor, methods of ablating or killing tumor cells and methods of disrupting the blood supply to a tumor, comprising administering oxygen alone or in combination with therapeutic agents that prevent inhibition of anti-tumor T cells. Tumor defense-resistant immune cells, anti-viral immune cells, and methods of their production are also disclosed.

Abstract: A dual-warehouse management system for a supply chain and a method for calculating a minimum of a joint cost thereof are provided. A manufacturer function module and a distributor function module are used to estimate a manufacturer's total cost and a distributor's total cost respectively. Afterwards, a joint cost optimization module is used to calculate a minimum joint cost. Accordingly, a product lot and a delivery time of a deteriorating item delivered from the manufacturer to the distributor are obtained in a planning horizon.

Abstract: A thermoelectric nanowire and a method of manufacturing the same, in which an oxide layer and a thermoelectric material layer, both of which have different thermal expansion coefficients, are stacked on a substrate, and a single crystal thermoelectric nanowire is grown from a thermoelectric material using the compressive stress caused by the difference between the thermal expansion coefficients. The method includes preparing a substrate on which an oxide layer is formed, forming a plurality of nanoparticles, each of which includes aluminum (Al), silver (Ag), iron (Fe) or oxides thereof, on the oxide layer, forming a thermoelectric material thin film, which has thermoelectric properties, above the oxide layer so as to include the nanoparticles formed on the oxide layer, heat-treating the substrate having the thermoelectric material thin film to grow the thermoelectric nanowire containing the nanoparticles, and cooling the substrate at room temperature after the heat-treatment.
