  • Patent number: 6696966
Abstract: The present invention provides an automatic monitor for use in a tank with a water soluble softening agent. The monitor includes a signal emitter that produces a signal capable of being detected by an array of signal-detecting sensors. The sensors are displaced generally vertically in the brine tank from the minimum depth of the softening agent to the maximum depth of the softening agent. An output is produced in response to said signal. The monitor also includes an electronic device for receiving and interpreting the output and determining if a low softening agent condition is present as the supply of the softening agent is depleted. An indicator warns when a low softening agent condition is present. Preferably, the sensors are linearly spaced within the tank.

  • Patent number: 6645383
Abstract: A process and apparatus for membrane treatment of a feed liquid to form a product liquid includes feeding a feed liquid, typically an aqueous solution such as tap water, to a primary membrane. The primary membrane separates the feed liquid into a primary membrane retentate which is retained by the primary membrane, and a primary membrane permeate. The primary membrane retentate is then fed to one or more supplemental primary membranes, or to a secondary membrane. The primary membrane retentate (or supplemental primary membrane retentate if a supplemental primary membrane is employed) is separated by the secondary membrane into a secondary membrane retentate which is retained by the secondary membrane, and a secondary membrane permeate passes through the secondary membrane. The secondary membrane retentate may either be collected and disposed of, or may be fed to one or more supplemental secondary membranes.

  • Publication number: 20030168394
Abstract: A filter head assembly is configured for connection to a water line and including at least two filter heads connected to each other for treating water supplied through the water supply line and at least one of the filter heads accommodating a replaceable filter bowl. The assembly includes at least one head housing having an inlet port, an outlet port, a central chamber in fluid communication with the ports and a bowl connection opening in fluid communication with the chamber. Each of the ports is pivotally connected to one of a tubular connector and an end plug fitting so that the head housing can pivot relative to the respective connector and/or fitting.

  • Patent number: 6551504
Abstract: A valve in a fluid treatment system adapted for controlling the flow of fluid between a source and a treatment media disposed in a treatment chamber. The valve includes a housing having a fluid passageway between an inlet and an outlet; a containment chamber; and a sealing member reciprocal between a first position in which the sealing member is retained in the containment chamber out of the flow of fluid in the passageway and a second position that seals the outlet. The containment chamber also includes a drain opening, which can be a venturi, for emptying the containment chamber of fluid.
