  • Patent number: 4899483
Abstract: A fishing hook includes a guard for preventing weeds from inadvertently snagging or contaminating the hook, while enabling the guard to flex toward the shank of the hook to catch a fish. The flexible sheet-like metallic guard is secured at one end to the hook adjacent the eye, and has an opposing free end normally positioned between the barbed tip of the hook and the eye. The guard lies within a plane substantially perpendicular to the hook plane, and has a width substantially greater than its thickness such that the end of the guard is prevented from moving in a direction perpendicular to the hook plane and out of alignment with the barbed tip, while the guard may freely flex toward the shank of the hook to catch fish.

  • Patent number: 4839983
Abstract: A fishing lure member has an internal cavity having an opening through at least one external surface thereof. A fish attractant is disposed at least partially within the cavity. The attractant may be removably retained in the cavity by cooperation of the body member and an insert having at least a portion disposed within the cavity. Alternatively, the matter may be a web-like member having opposite broad surfaces bounded by relatively thin peripheral edges; the attractant can be disposed in a pocket extending along at least one of these broad surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4700503
Abstract: A fishing lure comprises a lure body having outer surfaces defining the general overall exterior size and configuration of the lure as a whole. The outer surfaces include an upper surface and a lower surface. The lure body has a cavity extending therethrough in a generally horizontal direction corresponding to the length of the cavity, the cavity having width extending transverse to the length and generally horizontally, and depth extending transverse to the length and generally vertically. The width is greater than the depth over a major portion of the length of the cavity, and the configuration of the cavity is dissimilar to the overall external configuration of the lure body. The lure body has an insert opening through the exterior thereof into one end of the cavity. The lure further comprises an insert slidably mounted in the cavity but selectively removable from the cavity through the insert opening.

  • Patent number: 4672768
Abstract: An improved fishing lure is formed by a head/hook member having integral projections which interengage in preformed bores of a profiled body member of resilient material so as to maintain the unitary integrity of the assembly. The head/hook member is preferably a unitary member of relatively dense material, such as metal, so as to provide the necessary ballast for the lure. The body member is preferably formed of a resilient material, such as plastics or rubber like material, and as any geometric configuration, including the natural form of normal fish prey and may be colored in accordance with any coloration scheme. The body member has preformed bores which receive portions of the head/hook member therein without damage to the body member providing ease of assembly and replaceability not heretofore possible.

  • Patent number: 4573283
Abstract: A fishing lure comprises a flexible lure body having a preformed cavity therein. The cavity has a leading end and a trailing end, and the lure body has an insert opening through the exterior thereof into the cavity. An insert mounted in the cavity is selectively removable therefrom through the insert opening. The insert has a leading end disposed adjacent the leading end of the cavity and a trailing end disposed adjacent the trailing end of the cavity. The insert is either preformed with or forcibly malleable to assume a configuration differing from that assumed by the cavity in a relaxed condition without said insert therein. The insertion of the insert into the cavity will thus cause deflection of the lure body in a direction from the leading end to the trailing end and alter the external configuration of the lure body.

  • Patent number: 4425838
Abstract: An improved fluid collection device for mounting on cylinder-shaft assemblies, such as stuffing boxes, to control the leakage of fluids. The device comprises a flexible sleeve mounted to the end face of a stuffing box through a radial flange and having an upper cylindrical portion which extends along a length of the shaft reciprocating within the stuffing box. The sleeve includes a first inwardly extending radial portion which wipingly engages the surface of the shaft forming a collar therearound. The wiping collar forms a closed first chamber defined by the inner walls of the sleeve, the surface of the shaft, and the face of the stuffing box adjacent the shaft. Fluid communication is provided between the chamber and a fluid collection reservoir. A second partially closed chamber is similarly formed above the first chamber and is defined by the surface of the shaft, the cylindrical inner sleeve, the open circular end of which is spaced from the shaft, and the inwardly extending radial portion.

Abstract: A packing member, in either strip or annular form, the member comprising two lip sections adjoined to form a broad planar head surface. Each of the lip sections has a base with an outer lateral surface, and a groove extends along the entire length, or circumference, of the packing member between the bases. At least one of the lip sections includes a laterally outwardly depending sealing projection having a generally laterally outwardly facing side surface and a lower surface. In a relaxed state, the lower surface is disposed generally at an angle to the outer lateral surface of the respective base so as to be non-downwardly inclined from the outer lateral surface. The sealing projection is of such volume and cross-sectional configuration that, upon application of a generally laterally inward force to the side surface, the sealing projection is deformed to form a cavity adjacent its lower surface.
