Patent number: 5858556Abstract: A multilayer composite tubular structure for use as a stent in surgical procedures has an outer layer of biocompatible material, a middle layer of radiopaque material, and an inner layer of biocompatible material. The layers are metallurgically bonded, to form a composite stent which is ductile and permits large deformation without delamination between the biocompatible and radiopaque layers. The composite structure formed is visible on a fluoroscope, yet does not obstruct the details of the stent itself, or of the anatomical features surrounding the stent.A process of forming a multilayer composite tubular structure is also disclosed. A tube formed from radiopaque material is coaxially surrounded by a tube of biocompatible material. The tubes are simultaneously reduced, such as by tube drawing, swaging, or deep drawing, until a composite structure of a desirable diameter and wall thickness is formed. The tubes are then heat treated to cause diffusion bonding of the biocompatible and radiopaque layers.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1997Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: UTI CorporationInventors: John K. Patent number: 5511147Abstract: A graphical interface system and method of use allows robot programs to be graphically created and visualized in three dimensional space in a CAD environment. Using either on-line or off-line techniques, an operator enters robot positions and orientations in space into the interface to define robot configurations. Trajectories between configurations are entered or generated and are displayed along with the configurations. The state of the end effector is also entered and visually communicated. A special state can be designated. The special state has associated therewith programming code for controlling robot actions at a configuration and the robot environment at the configuration. When such a state is designated by the user, programming code written in a special language is entered and stored in association with a particular configuration. After all robot configurations, states and trajectories are entered, the system creates robot control data.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1994Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Assignee: UTI CorporationInventor: Karim Abdel-Malek

Patent number: 5422536Abstract: A cathode sheath for a thermionic electron-gun cathode. The sheath is substantially in the form of a hollow cylinder and has an outer surface and an inner surface, a central axis, a closed end and an axially-opposite open end, and a side wall extending between the closed end and the open end. The sheath is a continuous bimetallic laminate having a first layer of material forming the inner surface and a second layer of electron-emission (donor) material overlying substantially the entirety of the first layer and forming the outer surface. The laminate has a preselected thickness at the closed end and has a thickness at the side wall which varies along the central axis. The outer surface of the bimetallic laminate is substantially unreactive with oxygen whereas the inner surface is more readily reactive with oxygen.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1993Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: UTI CorporationInventors: John R. Patent number: 5070314Abstract: A hermetic module for containing at least one electronic component is integrated into a coaxial cable having a center conductor and an outer conductor. A housing defines an opening and an interior space therein. A body member is disposed within the interior space of the housing and defines a recess and a cavity adapted to contain the electronic component. The recess is in registration with the opening in the housing and is adapted to form an electrical contact with the outer conductor of the coaxial cable. A conductor member is disposed between the recess and the cavity, and includes a first end adapted to mate with the center conductor of the coaxial cable when the coaxial cable is inserted into the recess of the body member, and a second end disposed within the cavity. A sealing member disposed around the conductor member forms a seal between the recess and the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1990Date of Patent: December 3, 1991Assignee: UTI CorporationInventor: Frank Decker

Patent number: 4917631Abstract: A connector for microwave transmission lines having inner and outer conductors, separated by a dielectric layer. The connector comprises a contact ring surrounding and in physical and electrical contact with the outer conductor. A first end of the contact ring, the outer conductor and the dielectric layer all terminate in a common plane. In one embodiment, the second end of the contact ring extends for a distance between the outer conductor and a wire shield in the cable. In another embodiment, the contact ring engages the outer conductor at one cavity, and engages the outer surface of the shield at a concentric cavity of a larger diameter. A clamp nut movably surrounds the shield along at least the portion of the shield which surrounds the second end of the contact ring and a connector shell removably engageable with the clamp nut surrounds at least the portion of the clamp nut which surrounds the wire shield.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1988Date of Patent: April 17, 1990Assignee: UTI CorporationInventors: Ronald A. Patent number: 4607515Abstract: A penetrator is made in accordance with a method for increasing strength and/or hardness of a metal specimen. Compressive force is applied to the specimen slowly so that the yield strength of the specimen progressively increases and the specimen exhibits squirming instability as its diameter increases. The penetrator is adapted to be fired from a smooth bore weapon.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1983Date of Patent: August 26, 1986Assignee: UTI CorporationInventor: Glenn B. Goodfellow

Patent number: 4337385Abstract: An orbital tool support system for a machine tool such as an EDM machine, and ECM machine, or a conventional milling machine, of the kind including an orbiting head comprising two head elements interconnected by an orbital drive; the head is mounted centrally between a machine mounting plate affixed in centered relation to the tool head of the machine and a tool mounting plate that supports one or more electrodes or other tool elements. A plurality of slide bearing assemblies interconnect the two mounting plates in an X-Y bridge structure, maintaining the plates in parallel fixed vertical alignment but permitting limited onmidirectional relative movement in a horizontal plane. The bridge structure absorbs the vertical reaction forces resulting from machining operations, affording a dynamically stable tool support structure, even for very large electrodes or other tools; the bridge can be integral with or retrofit to virtually any EDM machine and to a wide variety of other machine tools.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1977Date of Patent: June 29, 1982Assignee: UTI CorporationInventors: Nicholas Maropis, Matt Kubistant
