    Abstract: Managing TCAM entries within a TCAM matrix for use in a data packet routing device is disclosed. Additionally, a computer readable medium containing instructions to cause a processor to perform the method is also disclosed. One method comprises the steps of: (1) providing a plurality of information base agents for managing respective information bases, wherein the information bases include route data; (2) maintaining a list of TCAM entries that are available for assignment; (3) allocating blocks of available TCAM entries to each of the plurality of information base agents; (4) the plurality of information base agents storing route data into the TCAM entries of their respective blocks of TCAM entries; (5) determining that one information base agent of the plurality of information base agents needs additional TCAM entries; (6) providing additional TCAM entries to the one information base agent; and (7) updating the list of TCAM entries available for assignment.

    Abstract: A system and method for processing media control traffic between a mobile switching center and plurality of remotely located media devices is described. The media devices are infrastructure components of a wireless network. The media control traffic includes a satellite link in the path between the mobile switching center and the media devices. The system and method use a media access server which is adapted for receiving media control messages from the mobile switching center for the plurality of media devices via the satellite link. The media access server acts as single a point of contact for media control messages between the mobile switching center and the plurality of media devices. In another implementation the media access server acts a single point of contact between the mobile switching center and a plurality of remote media devices, but a satellite link is not present between the mobile switching center and the media access server.

    Abstract: A method of establishing a Point-to-Point (PPP) session over an air interface is described. In order to provide access to a Circuit Switched Data (CSD) server on a CSD network, a Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN) establishes a PPP session on behalf of an InterWorking Function (IWF). This establishment of the PPP session allows a mobile 3G device to setup a TCP session with the IWF. The mobile 3G device may communicate modem emulation data to the IWF and thereby use a modem in the IWF to communicate over the CSD network with the CSD server.

    Abstract: A home location register provides a mobile switching center with information grouping mobile devices in particular groups, such groups identifying which feature codes mobile device are allowed to access. The mobile switching center stores such information in memory, e.g., in the form of a table containing grouping information for all currently registered mobile devices. When a mobile switching center receives a feature request from a mobile device in which the mobile device requests a feature that they are not authorized for, the mobile switching center denies the request, and does not exchange FEATREQ messages with the home location register. This technique frees up computing resources at the mobile switching center and the home location register and reduces the amount of IS-41 MAP signaling messages exchanged between the two entities.

    Abstract: A method and system for internal data loop back in a packet switch is provided. In some instances, the switch may be required to process multiple layers of a header within the data packet, such as when data is transferred over the network encapsulated with a TCP header at the Transport Layer to form a TCP packet, then encapsulated with an IP header at the Network Layer to form an IP packet, then encapsulated with one or more MPLS headers to form a MPLS packet, and then encapsulated with an Ethernet header at the Link Layer to form an Ethernet packet. In such an instance, the data packet can be iteratively processed by the packet switch using an internal loop back technique. An internal loop back may be accomplished by using a header providing internal routing instructions resulting in the data packet being routed directly from an egress queue back to an ingress queue whereupon the lower levels of the header can be processed.

In one embodiment, the control node determines the foreign agent based on a mobile client information record, a radio node record, and a plurality of foreign agent records associated with the radio node. In one embodiment, the control node may select a last serving foreign agent associated with the mobile client.

    Abstract: An Ethernet link connects a wireless switch and an interworking function (IWF). Both signaling information and bearer data are exchanged over the Ethernet link. The Ethernet-based interface enables wireless switch companies to keep their 2G customer base without having to deploy additional third party equipment. In order to make the Ethernet link function, an IWF chassis is modified to connect an Access Router card to a PRI card. The Access Router card packetizes and de-packetizes data to and from the PSTN. Additionally, a protocol is implemented between an application card and the Access Router card so that the application card can communicate signaling information to the Access Router card.

One method includes responsively to receiving on a first foreign agent control node (FACN) from a radio node a registration request message and determining that a mobile profile associated with a mobile node specified in the registration request is not available at the first FACN, sending from the first FACN to a second FACN a query request message including a request for the mobile profile. If the second FACN includes the requested mobile profile, the second FACN sends it to the first FACN using a query response message. When the first FACN receives the query response message, the first FACN makes a determination that the mobile profile includes a network address of the last serving PDSN.

    Abstract: Multiple home agents for a home agent service provider network are implemented in a single computing platform in software as multiple virtual home agents. Each home agent is assigned or dedicated to a single virtual private network. Each home agent runs independently, and is independently configured and managed by the subscriber of the virtual private network service, freeing the service provider of having to manage and supervise low level processing tasks and customization features that the subscribers may want.     Abstract: In mobile IP wireless data networking, methods are described for correctly routing packets through a foreign agent to or from wireless nodes where the wireless nodes have the same home network IP address. Instead of using normal IP routing, the foreign agent uniquely identifies the wireless node's home network IP address and home agent IP address with a PPP link address associated with a PPP link between the foreign agent and the wireless node. This association between PPP link addresses, home agent IP addresses, and home network IP addresses, is preferably implemented in software as a table stored in the foreign agent. The routing of packets through the foreign agent to the mobile nodes is performed by reference to the table. The table allows the foreign agent to correctly and efficiently route packets in the situation where multiple wireless nodes are registered with the foreign agent, but more than one of the wireless nodes have the same home network IP address.

For example, the signaling system may reduce the rate of signaling request messages processed with respect to requested and ongoing calls and/or reduce the amount of processing involved in handling such messages.
