Patent number: 7875587Abstract: The present invention provides peptide analogues which are antagonists of gastric inhibitory peptide (GIP). The peptides, based on GIP 1-42 include substitutions and/or modifications which have enhanced resistance to degradation by the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP IV). The invention also provides a process of N terminally modifying GIP and the use of the peptide analogues for treatment of diabetes.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2007Date of Patent: January 25, 2011Assignee: UUTECH LimitedInventors: Victor A. Gault, Finbarr Paul Mary O'Harte, Nigel Irwin, Peter Raymond Flatt

Patent number: 7361514Abstract: A system for identifying gases, the system having a plasma generator for generating a plasma using the gas to be identified and an array of detectors for detecting light emitted from the plasma. By analysing the output of the detectors, the gas can be identified. The system includes a plasma display (11) having two glass plates (36 and 38) patterned with strips that form the plasma electrodes. The intersection between the strips defines pixels which are individually addressable.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2001Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: UUTech LimitedInventors: James McLaughlin, Paul Damian Maguire

Patent number: 7110812Abstract: A defibrillator connected by catheters (7) to the heart (6) has an external circuit (2, 12) connected to a passive implanted circuit (5) by transdermal induction via voils (3, 4). For atrial defibrillation, pulses of 3–4 J can be transmitted at about 7 MHz without damage, using an implanted coil (4) of 20 mm diameter.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2000Date of Patent: September 19, 2006Assignee: UUTech LimitedInventors: John McCune Anderson, Noel Evans

Publication number: 20060121532Abstract: One of the major pathophysiological consequences of long term elevation of plasma glucose in diabetes is an increase in the non-enzymatic glycation of proteins. Contrary to expectations the present inventors have determined that individuals with well controlled short duration diabetes have particularly high concentrations of glycated insulin which decrease with increased disease severity and duration of diabetes. Further, a small proportion of apparently normal healthy individuals exhibit high glycated insulin levels in line with expected incidence of diabetes in the population. Methods of predicting the onset of diabetes and for monitoring the progression of diabetes by measuring the concentration of Glycated Insulin and the progression of diabetes are disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 19, 2003Publication date: June 8, 2006Applicant: Uutech LimitedInventors: Aine McKillop, Finbarr O'Harte, Peter Flatt

Patent number: 6983662Abstract: A system of measuring the flow of a human or animal bodily action or fluid along or through a bodily flow conduit using two or more sensor means located on the body and along or around the path of the conduit is described. Bodily fluids whose flow is measurable by the present invention include blood, semen and urine. The present invention is a non-invasive way of measuring the flow of a bodily action or fluid along or through a conduit, such as pulse wave velocity. Pulse wave velocity in the brachial artery can provide an indication of vessel wall quality or stiffness, which in turn, can be used to indicate how an individual's vascular system is ageing. Disorders such as stenosis and complete occlusion can be diagnosed by accurate measurement of pulse wave velocity.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2001Date of Patent: January 10, 2006Assignee: Uutech LimitedInventors: James McLaughlin, Paul Irwin
