  • Patent number: 5797585
Abstract: A flap valve for a heating and/or air conditioning installation for a motor vehicle has a valve flap which is operated by a control device between an open position and a closed position. The control device comprises a driving lever which is coupled, through a link, to a driven lever fixed to the valve flap. The driving lever is rotated about its axis between an open position and a closed position of the driving lever, during which it passes through an intermediate position near to the closed position. The valve flap is closed when the driving lever reaches its intermediate position, so that the travel of the latter between its intermediate and closed positions is dead travel during which the valve is in the closed position of the valve and the link is in compression so as to change its effective length.

  • Patent number: 5740681
Abstract: An air conditioning circuit of a motor vehicle is used for heating the cabin of the vehicle. The air conditioning circuit accordingly operates in a cooling mode and a heating mode, selectively. In the heating mode, the refrigerant fluid flowing in the air conditioning circuit flows in a branch of the circuit which bypasses the condenser. The evaporator therefore receives this fluid in the gaseous state and acts as a heat exchanger for dissipating the heat produced in the compressor. The heat dissipated by the evaporator can be used for heating the cabin when that produced by the engine of the vehicle is insufficient for this purpose. To this end, an ejector draws a complementary mass of fluid into the heating loop for the purpose of adjusting the heat energy produced.

  • Patent number: 5738579
Abstract: A motor vehicle heating and ventilating, and/or air conditioning, installation includes a heating and air distribution unit comprising a casing, the inlet of which is connected to the delivery side of a motorised fan unit. The casing has two outlets, namely a "feet" outlet leading to a lower part of the cabin of the vehicle, and a ventilation outlet, also leading into the cabin. The casing is divided into three ducts. Each of the first and second ducts has an upstream end open at the inlet of the casing, and a downstream end communicating with the feet and ventilation outlets of the casing respectively, under the control of a first flap valve and a second flap valve respectively. The third duct lies between the first and second ducts and has a central portion containing a heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 5737930
Abstract: In a heating mode, the fluid in the air conditioning circuit flows in a bypass branch avoiding the condenser. The evaporator then receives the fluid in the gaseous state and acts as a heat exchanger for dissipating the heat produced in the compressor. The heat dissipated by the evaporator may be employed to heat the cabin when that produced by the drive motor of the vehicle is insufficient. In addition, special configurations of the circuit enable the mass of fluid flowing in the heating loop to be increased or reduced with a view to regulating the calorific power produced.

  • Patent number: 5720181
Abstract: A motor vehicle air conditioning system includes an adjustable position air inlet valve for controlling the relative proportions of recirculated air and fresh air from outside entering the system. A first sensor and a second sensor give respective measurement signals representing the inside temperature of the cabin and the outside temperature. The occupant of the vehicle can set a required value of inside temperature on a data unit, which memorizing this setting. The installation includes a processor for computing the difference between the actual inside temperature and its required value, and for memorizing at least one first temperature threshold value. The processor makes a first comparison between this first threshold value and the computed absolute value of the temperature difference, and then performs a second comparison between the inside and outside temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5507529
Abstract: A heat exchanger comprises a fluid inlet tube member and a fluid outlet tube member on parallel axes, and third and fourth tube members to be coupled end-to-end to the inlet and outlet tube members, for connection of the latter to external flexible tubes; and has a rapid coupling device which comprises two sleeves, constituting end portions of the third and fourth tube members, for embracing the fluid inlet and outlet tube members, which are provided with seals. A locking arm which is pivoted on one of the sleeves terminates a saddle which, in a locking position, extends through an aperture in the other sleeve so as to be engaged on the outlet tube member and to hold the latter in sealed contact with the second sleeve. The arm at the same time maintains the first sleeve in sealing contact with the inlet tube member, which is fixed with respect to the outlet tube member.
