Patents Assigned to Valeo Engine Cooling AB
  • Patent number: 7416018
Abstract: The present invention relates to arrangement for a plate heat exchanger for connection to a system, of which the plate heat exchanger is designed to form part. The plate heat exchanger is of conventional construction with plates (2) parallel to one another, which constitute a package (1) and between them define flow channels. The outermost plates (2a, 2b) of the package (1) are at each short end partially covered by plate elements (6a, 6b), which essentially lie within the width of the package (1), of which the plate element (6a) situated nearest the system has throughholes (7) for assembly elements, which can be inserted into the holes (7) from above, since he pates (2) are formed with recesses (8). At each short end there are also clamping elements which effectively act between the plate elements (6a, 6b) and are designed to produce a symmetrical clamping force and to hold the package (1) together.

The first pair of manifolds (10, 11) is fastened to the second pair of manifolds (7, 8) at four corners (13, 14, 15, 16) by means of four fasteners, of which the first is a rigid fastener (19), the second (20) and third (22) are two-way fasteners, and the fourth (27) is a four-way fastener. The four-way fastener (27) is situated at the corner (16) diametrically opposed to the corner (13) with the rigid faster (19), and the two-way fasteners (20, 22) are situated at one of the remaining corners (14, 15) each.

  • Patent number: 6957487
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an elongate fluid conveying tube that includes starting from a blank of metal material, wherein the fluid conveying tube is adapted to be mounted in a vehicle cooler and comprises at least two internal elongate ducts. The method of manufacturing the tube includes forming a projecting surface structure on a portion of the surface of the blank. The method also includes defining a substantially flat web portion between two upright edge portions that are formed along two opposite edges of the blank. Additionally, the method involves forming the ducts such that the edge portions are situated perpendicular to the web portion and the outer faces of said edge portions are brought into abutment against each other and against the web portion for defining said ducts.

  • Patent number: 6935418
Abstract: A fluid conveying tube included in a vehicle cooler comprises on its inside first and second opposite longitudinal primary heat exchange surfaces, and flow-directing surface structures which are arranged on the primary surfaces. Each surface structure comprises a plurality of elongate directing elements projecting from the primary surfaces. The surface structures are alternatingly arranged on the first and second primary surfaces in such manner that directing elements, succeeding in the longitudinal direction of the primary surfaces, are alternatingly arranged on the first and second primary surfaces and are mutually inclined at a given angle (?). Each surface structure comprises a laterally extending row of mutually parallel directing elements. Thus an input fluid flow is divided into a number of parallel partial flows which follow a respective spiral-shaped flow path through the tube, whereby a high heat exchanging capacity is achieved.

  • Patent number: 6510870
Abstract: A fluid conveying tube for a vehicle cooler comprises at least two longitudinal ducts, each comprising two opposite, longitudinal primary heat exchange surfaces. At least one primary surface in each duct of the tube has a projecting surface structure. In a method of manufacturing such a tube, starting from a blank, use is made of a device, which has a feeder for feeding the blank through the device and a surface forming station for forming the surface structure on a portion of the blank surface. Furthermore, the device comprises an edge forming station for forming two opposite edges of the blank into two upright edge portions, which between themselves define an at least partly essentially flat web portion. In addition, the device comprises a duct forming station for making the edge portions abut against each other and against the web portion with a view to defining said ducts.

  • Patent number: 6216775
Abstract: Arrangement in a heat exchanger, for example a retarder oil cooler, constructed from plates with alternating cooling water and oil ducts between them. The plates surrounding the cooling water ducts are provided with converging inward bends in the form of nipples, which are intended to keep the said plates at a distance from one another. Between the plates surrounding the oil ducts there is a so-called turbulator, which on the one hand serves to increase the surface and on the other is designed to make the flow turbulent. The arrangement is characterized in that the oil ducts situated outermost in the cooler each comprise elements designed to reduce the flow through these compared to the flow in other oil ducts. An improved thermal equilibrium is thereby achieved in the outermost ducts, which gives a reduced risk of thermal fatigue, especially in the inward bends converging in the cooling water ducts in the form of nipples. The service life of the heat exchanger is thereby prolonged.

  • Patent number: 6073616
Abstract: The invention concerns an arrangement comprising an inlet manifold for an internal combustion engine. The arrangement comprises an element formed with flow ducts. It is formed with two coupling device halves which communicate with the ducts. These coupling device halves can be connected to two corresponding coupling device halves disposed on the inlet manifold. One of these halves communicates with the member for supplying air of combustion for the engine and with an engine coolant discharge pipe. The other communicates with the inlet manifold and with a feed pipe for said coolant.

  • Patent number: 5692295
Abstract: The described apparatus produces an end closure for a pipe that forms part of a heat exchanger. The apparatus includes a frame, with first and second sides. A tubular through-channel has an opening on the first said that is delimited by a side surface extending around the opening. It is possible for a pipe which is intended to be closed, to be introduced into the tubular channel from the second side. A press tool executes a reciprocal motion through the channel. The press tool presses an end closure blank into the channel opening. A method for producing an end closure for a heat exchanger pipe also is described. The method comprises the measures of introducing a pipe into a channel in a frame. An end closure blank is pressed into the through-channel and on into the pipe.
