  • Patent number: 6805317
Abstract: A device is provided for winding paper in which the paper web running is supported by a reel drum and wound onto exchangeable reel shafts in contact with the reel drum in order to form rolls of paper. The device applies a heated adhesive agent on the web and/or on the reel shaft onto which the web is to be wound. A spray rack is mounted on the stand of the reel-up, upstream of the reel drum and extending transversely to the machine direction, or alternatively, is mounted in various other locations of the reel-up. A hopper with a heater heats the heated adhesive agent to temporarily lower its viscosity and stickiness for smooth and even spraying. A series of nozzles are mounted on the rack spaced across the width of the web to spread spray jets of liquid containing said heated adhesive onto the web and/or the reel shaft. The adhesive area thus is disposed between the web and the empty reel shaft so as to facilitate initiating the winding process.

  • Publication number: 20020069991
Abstract: A device is provided for dewatering a fabric in which the fabric is used in a papermaking process that exposes it to water before it is directed to the fabric dewatering device. The fabric dewatering device includes leading and trailing guide rolls about which the fabric is partially wrapped to form a loop portion. The loop portion is suspended between the leading and trailing guide rolls and includes a trough portion with a relatively small diameter that is positioned below the axes of the guide rolls. Running the fabric through the trough portion at high speeds exposes the water trapped therein to high centrifugal forces. The centrifugal forces expel the water from the fabric. The geometry and positioning of the trough portion is maintained either through a difference in fabric speed maintained by the leading and trailing nips or by the use of a rider roll positioned within the loop.

  • Patent number: 6398916
Abstract: A through-air drying paper making apparatus is provided comprising a twin-fabric forming section, a water-removing section arranged downstream of the forming section, and a web transfer device disposed between the forming section and the water-removing section. The forming section includes a forming roll, a pair of fabrics guided to travel about a portion of the circumference of the forming roll, and a headbox operable to deposit a slurry between the fabrics so as to form a paper web therebetween. Preferably, one of the fabrics in the forming section comprises a through-air drying (TAD) fabric arranged to carry the paper web through the water-removing section, while the other fabric comprises a forming wire. At the web transfer device, the paper web is separated from the forming wire and the paper web then carried on the TAD fabric through the water-removing section. The water-removing section includes at least one through-air dryer for at least partially drying the paper web.

  • Publication number: 20020060031
Abstract: Machine equipment in a paper or board machine comprising at least one wear ledge for contact with a clothing, and a support body for the wear ledge and a device for mounting the wear ledge to its support body. In accordance with the invention, the mounting device has a locking bar arranged in a groove in the wear ledge, and a cavity is formed in the support body and contains a press bar. The support body defines a plurality of holes extending from the cavity and open toward the groove in the wear ledge. Connecting elements extend through the holes and are rigidly connected to the clamping bar and the press bar, and spring members in the cavity act between the press bar and an opposite support surface of the cavity to retain the wear ledge against the support body in a stable operating position. An expandable hose is arranged in the cavity so as, when activated, to press against the press bar so that the spring members are compressed and the wear ledge becomes free for pulling out along the locking bar.

  • Publication number: 20020059872
Abstract: In a roll nip (5) formed between a shoe press roll (1) having a concave, plane or slightly convex press shoe (11), a flexible jacket (15) and a hot counter roll (3), the jacket (15) may be damaged by the heat from the counter roll (3) upon a web break. To avoid this, the roll nip (5) is opened by removing one of the press shoe (11) and the hot counter roll (3) from the other, so that the jacket (15) resumes a generally cylindrical shape having an arched portion located across the shoe (11). Then, a force is applied inside the roll jacket (15), directed away from the roll nip (5), to tension the roll jacket (15) over the leading edge and the trailing edge of the press shoe (11), so as to reduce the height of arch of the arched portion over the shoe (11) sufficiently to ensure removal of the jacket (15) from contact with the hot counter roll (3). Preferably, the force against the inside of the jacket is applied by means of a tensioning shoe (61).

Abstract: An arrangement for handling white water from a paper machine comprises a white water channel having an inlet end for receiving white water from a paper machine and an opposite outlet end defining a main outlet through which the white water is discharged into a container. A channel bottom slopes downward and an additional outlet is provided between the main outlet and the inlet end, the bottom having a first bottom portion that leads away from the inlet end up to the additional outlet and a second bottom portion that leads away from the additional outlet toward the main outlet. The first and second bottom portions are so arranged in relation to each other that each of the bottom portions slopes downward in the flow direction at an angle of inclination that exceeds a critical angle of inclination that avoids sedimentation on the bottom.

  • Patent number: 6355143
Abstract: A shoe press unit comprises a support beam, a shoe element movably supported on the beam, a pressing unit arranged between the beam and the shoe element for urging the shoe element away from the beam and toward a counter element, and a flexible belt that is arranged to slide over the pressing surface of the shoe element. An oil evacuation arrangement formed separately from the shoe element is affixed to the shoe element proximate an upstream edge region thereof. The oil evacuation arrangement has an inlet opening located such that a major portion of the excess oil expelled from between the belt and the shoe element passes through the inlet opening with a kinetic energy that is substantially undiminished from the initial kinetic energy of the oil as it exits from between the belt and the pressing surface of the shoe element.
