Patent number: 10816792Abstract: Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) has enabled telecommunication service providers to fully exploit the transmission capacity of optical fibers. State of the art systems in long-haul networks now have aggregated capacities of terabits per second. Moreover, by providing multiple independent multi-gigabit channels, WDM technologies offer service providers with a straight forward way to build networks and expand networks to support multiple clients with different requirements. In order to reduce costs, enhance network flexibility, reduce spares, and provide re-configurability many service providers have migrated away from fixed wavelength transmitters, receivers, and transceivers, to wavelength tunable transmitters, receivers, and transceivers as well as wavelength dependent add-drop multiplexer, space switches etc.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2016Date of Patent: October 27, 2020Assignee: Valorbec Societe En CommanditeInventors: Muthukumaran Packirisamy, Pierre Pottier

Patent number: 8965793Abstract: A method and system for auctioning an auction item in a multi-attribute auction. A winning bid is selected by determining a secret value function indicative of acceptable combination of attribute values for the auction owner. The auction owner computing device or the auction server generates alternate combinations of attribute values based at least in part on the secret value function. To generate the alternate combinations of attribute values at least some of the combinations of attribute values are perturbed so as to hinder the bidders from deriving or finding the secret value function. The auction server informs the bidders, via a bidder interface of a client computing device, about the alternate combinations of attribute values and required biding directions. The bidder can offer a bid in a next round based on the alternate combinations of attribute values, in a progressive manner and without knowledge of the secret value function.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2012Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Valorbec, Societe en CommanditeInventors: Gregory E. Publication number: 20150001094Abstract: There are provided processes for treating wastewater. The processes can comprise treating a mixture comprising the wastewater and an activated sludge, in a single reactor, with an electric current having a density of less than about 55 A/m2, by means of at least one anode and at least one cathode that define therebetween an electrical zone for treating the mixture; exposing the mixture to an intermittent ON/OFF electrical exposure mode to the electric current in which an OFF period of time is about 1 to about 10 times longer than an ON period of time; and maintaining an adequate oxidation-reduction potential in the single reactor. Such processes allow for substantial removal of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus from the wastewater in the single reactor of various forms and for obtaining another mixture comprising a treated wastewater and solids.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 8, 2013Publication date: January 1, 2015Applicants: Valorbec Societe en Commandite, University of ManitobaInventors: Sharif Ibeid, Maria Elektorowicz, Jan Oleszkiewicz

Patent number: 8865798Abstract: A self-healing material comprises a matrix embedded with micro-pockets of a healing-agent releasable by a crack in the matrix. The healing-agent is able to bond to the matrix to repair the crack. The healing-agent is contained in microcapsules. A corresponding catalyst for the healing-agent is embedded in the matrix and contained in a plurality of microcapsules as an emulsion. The emulsion comprises an oil, a perfluorated solvent, a hydrophobic ionic liquid, or mixtures thereof. A method of manufacturing the self-healing material comprises the steps of identifying an operational temperature range of the material, providing at least one substance as the healing-agent, which substance remaining substantially in a liquid state within the operational temperature range, identifying an operational evaporation rate of the healing-agent and providing the substance with a curing time according to the evaporation rate.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2007Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignees: Valorbec Societe en Commandite, MPB Communications Inc.Inventors: Philippe Merle, Yoann Guntzburger, Émile Haddad, Suong Van Hoa, Girish Thatte

Publication number: 20120186794Abstract: A heat exchanger including a first plate and a second plate spaced apart from the first plate that defines a first gap between inner surfaces of the first plate and the second plate in which a first fluid circulates where a major portion of the first gap is free of obstructions, where a second fluid contacts an outer surface of the first or second plate for heat exchange with the first fluid, where a first peripheral wall on the periphery of the first gap has a curved profile inside the first gap, and at least one inlet is radially positioned with respect to the first gap and injects the first fluid in the gap, and least one outlet is centrally positioned in one of the first and the second plate to enable the first fluid to exit the first gap, where first fluid circulates in a swirling flow in the major portion of the first gap.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2010Publication date: July 26, 2012Applicant: Valorbec Societe EN Commandite, Representee Par Gestion Valeo S.E.C.Inventors: Georgios H. Patent number: 7420734Abstract: Diffraction gratings are formed from grooves each having a reflective facet and a non-reflective facet. The net reflection of TE (Transverse Electric) and TM (Transverse Magnetic) polarizations from the grating structure is traded off against the polarization dependent reflection, by controlling the degree of metallization of the reflective facet and by ensuring that there is no metallization of non-reflective sidewalls. other diffraction gratings are manufactured from trenches etched perpendicular to a waveguide. The trenches are metallized and back-filled with a filling material having a refractive index matched to that of the waveguide. The gratings essentially have no non-reflecting sidewalls with insignificant polarization influence from side walls.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2003Date of Patent: September 2, 2008Assignee: Valorbec Societe En CommanditeInventors: Ashok Balakrishnan, Kokou Dossou, Muthukumaran Packirisamy

Patent number: 7135602Abstract: Provided herein is a method and apparatus for selective deep catalytic cracking of petroleum naphthas or other hydrocarbon feedstocks. The feed comprising the hydrocarbons to be cracked and steam, in well-defined proportions, is first sent into a precatalytic zone (Zone I) of a cracking reactor, preferably a tubular reactor. In a preferred embodiment, Zone I, contains beads of some catalytically mildly active porous material such as quartz or quartz doped with Cr—Al, is set at a temperature T1. The gas steam flows then through a catalyst bed, called Zone II, where the catalytic reaction takes place. Zone II is set at temperature T2 and contains a zeolite type catalyst, preferably ZSM5 zeolite or, most preferably, a hybrid zeolite catalyst.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2000Date of Patent: November 14, 2006Assignee: Valorbec Societe en CommanditeInventor: Raymond Le Van Mao

The catalyst compositions being characterized by a first catalytic component comprising oxides of aluminum, silicon, chromium, and optionally, oxides of monovalent alkaline metals, and further comprising a binder, preferably bentonite clay. Preferably, the catalyst compositions will comprise a catalytic component in accordance with the following formula: (a) SiO2·(b) A12O3·(c) Cr2O3(d) alk2O, with alk being a monovalent alkaline metal, preferably selected from sodium, potassium and lithium. The second catalytic component is selected from a crystalline zeolite or a silica molecular sieve. Also provided in the present invention are methods of making the catalyst compositions.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2001Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Assignee: Valorbec Societe en CommanditeInventor: Raymond Le Van Mao
