Patent number: 12245625Abstract: A longitudinally movable infeed mechanism that allows for variations in the effective length of a peeler that uses rotating rolls to clean, peel or otherwise treat the exterior of objects, such as potatoes. The infeed mechanism has a surface, which can be the upwardly-facing surface of a conveyor belt, that conveys or is part of a structure that conveys the objects into the peel bed. A terminal end of the surface may move longitudinally parallel to the rolls, and may have a wall that prevents objects from moving past it. Thus, movement of the terminal end and wall defines the effective peel bed length and restricts the objects to that peel bed, permitting variation in amount of peeling by movement of the infeed mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2020Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: Vanmark Equipment, LLCInventors: Kyle V. Huck, Chris L. Hudson, Alexander C. Herzberg

Patent number: 11969768Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning a food-processing machine having cylindrical rolls disposed along a curve, each of the rolls having a peripheral working surface for contacting food products and an axis about which each roll rotates. A drive rail is mounted parallel to the axes of the rolls and extends the length of the rolls. A spray bar slidably mounts to the drive rail, extends adjacent the rolls, and has at least one nozzle for spraying liquid onto the working surfaces of the rolls to clean them of debris. A prime mover drives the spray bar along the drive rail parallel to the axes of the rolls while spraying the rotating rolls.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2021Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: Vanmark Equipment, LLCInventors: Alexander C. Patent number: 11858747Abstract: A vibratory conveyor for use in an industrial processing system. The vibratory conveyors include mounting plates for coupling vibratory motors of the conveyor. The mounting plates extend into tubular sidewalls of the base frame. A force-balancing member, such as a cross-member, extends between the mounting plates. The mounting plates may be a solid plate of material, such as steel.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2022Date of Patent: January 2, 2024Assignee: Vanmark Equipment, LLCInventors: Brice Robert Gabriel, Tim Erwin Wolf, Jack G. Patent number: 10335971Abstract: A distributor valve for a hydrocutting system. The valve automatically diverts a flow of liquid and solid food products flowing from a source to one or both of two destinations. An entry conduit receives the suspended food products in liquid, and an angled plate deflects the food products downwardly. The food products and liquid enter a drum that is perpendicular to the entry conduit, causing rotational circulation in the drum. The food products and liquid flow into one or both of two longitudinally opposite outlets, depending on whether the path downstream of the outlets is flowing. Upon actuation of a valve on one side, or essentially complete blockage of one side, the fluid and products flow to the other side automatically. No moving parts are needed in the valve to change the flow path; the only change is to the flow downstream, which automatically affects the flow in the valve.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2015Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: Vanmark Equipment LLCInventors: Colter J. Patent number: 10143227Abstract: A peeling apparatus and method using rotating rollers as a peeling bed includes a mechanism that moves food products through the peeling bed. The mechanism has multiple walls mounted to a continuous loop that is driven over the peeling bed to define cavities between each adjacent pair of walls. The walls' lower edges are spaced close to the rollers to prevent food products from exiting a cavity. One or more of the walls may have cleaners, such as spray nozzles connected to high pressure liquid, to clean particles from the rollers. The nozzles spray the particles off as the spray nozzles pass over the rollers during normal operation of the peeling apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2016Date of Patent: December 4, 2018Assignee: Vanmark Equipment, LLCInventor: Thomas P. Patent number: 9446531Abstract: An improvement to hydrocutting systems includes a curved shape for the acceleration and deceleration sections of the system. In the acceleration and deceleration tubes, the curvature of the sidewall is non-linear along its length, and the water flowing therein accelerates, positively or negatively, at a substantially constant rate. In an embodiment, there is a second curvature, which may be offset from the first curvature by about 90 degrees, that accelerates the water at a second, different substantially constant rate, in order to align the food product both lengthwise and rotationally to a desired orientation.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2014Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: VANMARK EQUIPMENT LLCInventors: Thomas P. Mathues, Colter J. Young

Publication number: 20160214267Abstract: A cutting assembly for use in a hydro-cutting system in which water and food products are conveyed through tubes and the food products are sliced into smaller pieces. The cutting assembly includes multiple disks and U-shaped blades. Legs of the blades are mounted between the substantially parallel disks on opposite sides of the disks, thereby holding the blades in place. A rotationally-driven motor driveshaft extends through the assembly and the assembly is mounted in a tube. When the water and food products are conveyed into the cutting assembly, the rotating assembly slices pieces from the food product, and the pieces are separated from the water for later use or processing. The water can be used in another slicing cycle.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2014Publication date: July 28, 2016Applicant: VANMARK EQUIPMENT, LLCInventor: George A. Mendenhall

Patent number: 9227336Abstract: An acceleration tube for use in a hydro-cutting system. A flexible, tapered tube is mounted in a rigid cylindrical housing. Flanges formed at opposite ends of the flexible tube mount adjacent ends of the rigid housing, forming an annular chamber radially between the tube and the housing, and longitudinally between the flanges. A centralizing ring maintains the outlet end of the tube aligned coaxially with the cutting assembly of the hydro-cutting system, but is difficult to bypass during insertion of the tube into the housing. A fluid valve is used to inject fluid into the chamber to force the outlet end flange past the centralizing ring during installation of the tube in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2014Date of Patent: January 5, 2016Assignee: VANMARK EQUIPMENT, LLCInventor: Christopher Paul Hebbeln

Patent number: 8555447Abstract: A brush assembly using a spacer and the spacer permit multiple brushes to be combined on a driveshaft that is driven in rotation. The use of multiple brushes allows one to vary the characteristics of the brush assembly along the assembly's length. This also permits one to change fewer than all brushes when needed, thereby saving the cost of replacing an entire brush assembly's brushes when worn. The spacer is a body with a central opening that is preferably polygonal in section, opposing ends that form shoulders and a radially extending gasket located intermediate the opposing ends.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2010Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: Vanmark Equipment, LLCInventors: Thomas P.
