  • Patent number: 7867292
Abstract: A method for producing a prismatic rechargeable battery that includes providing a battery housing comprising a plurality of cell vessels separated by intermediate walls. The method also includes providing contact connector plates on opposite sides of each of the intermediate walls and electrically coupling the contact connector plates provided on opposite sides of the intermediate walls to each other through their associated intermediate walls. The method further includes arranging plate stacks in the cell vessels, each of the plate stacks having a plurality of contacts and coupling the electrical contacts of the plate stacks to contact connector plates provided on the intermediate walls. The method further includes closing the housing such that the cell vessels and the housing are sealed.

  • Patent number: 7172835
Abstract: The invention relates to an alkaline rechargeable battery for storing electrical energy having a positive electrode which, as the substrate material, has a nickel foam strip, a nickel strip or nickel-plated perforated or unperforated steel strip and a pasty active material, which is composed mainly of nickel hydroxide and contains particles of cobalt hydroxide, cobalt monoxide as well as a plastic binding agent, a negative electrode and a separator which is arranged between the electrodes, in a closed housing. As the conductive agent, the positive active material contains 9 to 20% by weight of a graphite mixture, which is composed of more that 70% of fibrous graphite with a fiber length of 10 to 35 ?m and a fiber diameter of 3 to 8 ?m, and, in addition to this, spherical graphite with a particle diameter d50 of 3 to 8 ?m.

  • Patent number: 6881519
Abstract: A Ni/metal hydride secondary element having a positive nickel hydroxide electrode, a negative electrode having a hydrogen storage alloy, and an alkaline electrolyte, the positive electrode, provided with a three-dimensional metallic conductive structure, also contains an aluminum compound which is soluble in the electrolyte, in addition to nickel hydroxide and cobalt oxide. The aluminum compound is aluminum hydroxide and/or aluminum oxide, and the mass of the aluminum compound which is present in the positive bulk material mixture is 0.1 to 2% by weight relative to the mass of the nickel hydroxide which is present. In combination with aluminum hydroxide or aluminum oxide, the positive electrode further contains lanthanoid oxidic compounds Y2O3, La2O3 and Ca(OH)2, as well as mixtures of these compounds.

  • Patent number: 6866962
Abstract: A sealed rechargeable battery with sets of wound electrodes arranged in a housing, wherein the housing has at least two main chambers separated by a cell separating wall and in each of which there are located at least two electrode coils. The electrode coils within the main chambers are connected in parallel and the storage elements formed in the main chambers are electrically connected in series. The positive poles of the electrode coils in one main chamber point in one direction and in the neighboring main chamber they point in the opposite direction. The positive or negative electrodes of the electrode coils in one of the main chambers are respectively connected by a contact disk, which are provided with pole posts, and the opposite poles of all the cells are electrically connected in series by a contact disk connecting all the cells.

  • Patent number: 6777914
Abstract: In a method for determining the state of charge of rechargeable batteries by integration of the amounts of current flowing during charging and discharging, a first state of charge value LZA is determined by continuous integration of the rechargeable battery current. A second state of charge value LZB is determined by measurement of the no-load voltage U0 after receiving or supplying a defined amount of charge Q which is sufficient in order to leave the region of the mixed potential of the electrodes and to reach a no-load voltage of the rechargeable battery, and by comparison of this measured no-load voltage U0 with empirically determined no-load voltage characteristics for the rechargeable battery.
