Patents Assigned to VDO Control Systems, Inc.
  • Patent number: 6173165
Abstract: The invention relates to a broadcast receiver, comprising a control circuit (7) for applying encoded messages, derived from a broadcast signal, to at least one storage device (12, 28), for receiving control data, derived from the encoded messages, from at least one storage device (12, 28), and for forming the messages from the control data in a form suitable for a display device (13) and/or a speech synthesizer circuit (14). In order to reduce the data file, given control data is stored under a respective escape code in at least one storage device (12, 28). The control data contains, for example phonetic notations of different languages. After reception of control data containing at least one escape code, the control circuit (7) applies said escape codes to a storage device (12, 28) for further processing of the control data stored under the escape code.

  • Patent number: 5950117
Abstract: A vocabulary memory which contains descriptions of vocabulary elements is addressable by a code which is formed by a number designating a vocabulary element, but the set of useful codes for a given user comprises gaps (32-38) between groups of consecutive numbers which are referred to as segments (24-31). The vocabulary memory contains segments which are arranged end to end and the receiver comprises an auxiliary memory which contains, for a given segment (27), the smallest and largest code values of this segment and the position in the vocabulary memory of descriptions corresponding to the codes contained in this segment, as well as the addresses (225, 230) in said auxiliary memory of data of two other segments (25, 30) of the sequence of segments, some of which are situated above and some of which are situated below said given segment etc. in order to form a classification in the form of a tree.

  • Patent number: 5874888
Abstract: A car radio with an electronic anti-theft device, which device includes circuitry for electrically detecting the removal of the car radio from its build-in recess, and by which the function of the car radio is blocked as long as the anti-theft device is not deactivated after the removal. A simple arrangement with a highly reliable mode of operation is obtained in that the circuitry for electrically detecting the removal of the car radio includes a monitoring circuit, by which the presence of a connection from the car radio to at least one loudspeaker is monitored continuously, and by which the anti-theft device is activated immediately after the interruption of this connection.

  • Patent number: 5835854
Abstract: An RDS/TMC receiver or a traffic guidance system includes a unit for indicating on a display (10) or by speech synthesis (20, 4, 5) proper names or place names, for example, alternately in the language of the user and in the language of the country the user travels through, while the other words of the message are indicated only in the user's language. The translations are found in a memory (23).The guidance system may be used, for example, a guiding and/or information system for the motorist.
