Patent number: 4368668Abstract: An arrangement for facilitating the mounting of printing plates on a plate cylinder of an offset printing machine. Two arms are mounted atop the machine at the opposite lateral sides thereof and have free ends provided with hooks. A rail is suspended from these hooks and carries quick-coupling devices which engage the trailing edge of a printing plate to be mounted. The hooks are suspended on ropes which are wound upon rollers mounted on the free ends of the arms; turning of the rollers in a sense causing unwinding of the ropes is resisted by torque springs or similar devices; this resistance can be varied to compensate for printing plates of different weights. Thus, the weight of the printing plate cannot cause the ropes to unwind; however, when the leading edge of the printing plate is connected to the plate cylinder and the cylinder is slowly rotated to take the plate up on it, the pull exerted by the cylinder causes unwinding of the ropes.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1981Date of Patent: January 18, 1983Assignee: Veb Kombinat Polygraph "Werner Lamberz" LeipzigInventors: Hans Johne, Arndt Jentzsch, Gunter Schumann, Arnfried Jehring, Fritz Liebschner, Rolf Gutsche, Frank Grafe

Patent number: 4335674Abstract: An apparatus for applying hot melt glue to back surfaces of book blocks, wherein these back surfaces are distributed in fan-like fashion, by means of glueing rollers, two of which are consecutively arranged conically-shaped rollers which are adjustable in their angular setting, whereby the tearing out resistance of the sheet edges is increased. Each glueing roller is supported in an individual glue pan which may be separately pivoted and adjusted in its height. By adjusting of angular setting of the aforementioned two rollers the vertical position of each glue pan may be corrected. This will ensure a uniform and sufficiently large glue layer over the back surfaces of the blocks throughout the entire process of glueing.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1980Date of Patent: June 22, 1982Assignee: VEB Kombinat Polygraph "Werner Lamberz" LeipzigInventors: Gerald Winker, Hans-Peter Thrandorf, Christian Blum

Patent number: 4295423Abstract: The liquid-distributing roller assembly for printing machines is composed of two opposite pairs of guiding tracks secured to the machine walls. One track supports for rectilinear movement a two-stage transmission gear unit in which one end of the shaft is supported for rotation; the other end of the shaft is supported for rotation and for a rectilinear movement in the opposite track. The shaft supports for rotation and for an axial displacement a liquid distributing roller which at one end is connected to a first spur gear rotatable on one end of the shaft and being in permanent engagement with an elongated transmission gear. The latter is also in permanent engagement with a second spur gear which is connected for joint rotation to the shaft.
