  • Patent number: 4792229
Abstract: A device for mixing gas and/or vapor streams including liquid components dispersed therein in which the incoming product streams which have been crudely mixed with quench gas, are fed as a single total stream through a collecting plate which covers the reactor cross section, with the streams being collected on the concave side of the plate and passing through it. The streams pass through a mixing pipe which adjoins the outlet of the collecting plate, and the streams further pass through an outer pipe which is configured so as to bring about a reversal of the flow direction. The streams then pass into the space above a distributor device, and are uniformly distributed over the reactor cross section, along with liquid components collected on the distributor, onto a catalyst bed disposed below the distributor.

  • Patent number: 4666589
Abstract: A method for pretreating a coal hydrogenation feedstock with preheated hydrogen containing a hydrogenation gas under high pressure and at elevated temperature, in a liquid phase slurry system, is disclosed. In this process a mixture of a slurry of finely ground coal and a slurry oil are fed to a preheater before being subjected to a hydrogenation and liquefaction reaction in a cascade of reactors at a pressure of from 100 to 40 bars and a temperature of 420.degree. to 490.degree. C. The reaction products are fed to a hot separator. In the process of the invention, prior to its preheating, a first partial stream of the hydrogenation gas, referred to as the slurry gas, is added to the mixture at process pressure. A second partial stream of the hydrogenation gas is heated by indirect heat exchange with a gaseous hot separator product in a gas heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4512873
Abstract: The residues obtained in the hydrogenation of oil, especially heavy oil, or of coal are subjected to low temperature carbonization in a drum, preferably a rotary drum, at temperatures between approximately 400.degree. C. and approximately 600.degree. C., by means of a carbonization gas after the separation of the condensable portions and heating to temperatures between approximately 600.degree. C. and approximately 950.degree. C. which is introduced into the low temperature carbonization drum. The gas is heated to temperatures between approximately 600.degree. C. and approximately 950.degree. C. indirectly by flue gases arising from the combustion of oil or gas, for example, of excess carbonization gas.
