Abstract: A method includes measuring a magnetic field generated by an electrical wire using a three-axis magnetometer disposed within a portable electronic device. The device then determines a first magnetic field strength component aligned with a first direction and a second magnetic field strength component aligned with a second direction. The position of the electrical wire relative to the magnetometer is movable in the first direction, and wherein the position of the electrical wire is constrained in the second direction. The device then provides an instruction via a display to move the wire to a position where the first magnetic field strength component is equal to the second magnetic field strength component.

  • Publication number: 20140266177
Abstract: A method of analyzing an alternating electrical current includes polling a magnetometer at a constant sampling frequency to generate a plurality of magnetic field strength readings. The polling occurs over a plurality of cycles of the alternating electrical current. A time stamp is then assigned to each of the plurality of magnetic field strength readings, and the readings are saved within a common circular buffer according to each reading's respective time stamp and the fundamental frequency of the electrical current. A processor may then determine one or more harmonics of the magnetic field by analyzing the common circular buffer using a Fourier transform.

  • Publication number: 20140278164
Abstract: A device for determining an electrical power parameter of an adjacent electrical wire includes a magnetometer, a display, and a processor. The magnetometer is configured to monitor a magnetic field and to provide an output that is indicative of a magnetic field strength. The processor is in communication with the magnetometer and the display, and is configured to: receive the output from the magnetometer; determine an electrical power parameter from the received output; and provide a visual indication of the determined electrical power parameter via the display.

  • Publication number: 20140282231
Abstract: A user interface for a computing device includes a user interface form configured to fill a computing display. The user interface form is selectively and dynamically partitionable to define a plurality of non-overlapping frames, including a first frame and a second frame. Each of the plurality of non-overlapping frames includes an application window configured to display an instance of a software application being run by the computing device. A dynamic partition is disposed between the first frame and the second frame, and is configured to translate in a direction that is transverse to a longitudinal axis of the dynamic partition. The translation of the dynamic partition resizes each of the first frame and the second frame.
