Abstract: Various embodiments of battery pack assemblies are described. In at least one embodiment, a battery pack assembly includes first and second cell carriers. At least one of the carriers is a retaining cell carrier, has a plurality of upstanding walls extending from a bottom wall thereof and defines a matrix of recesses. At least one of the carriers is a perforated cell carrier and has a wall with a plurality of openings. Battery cells, each having a plurality of cell terminals, are retained within the matrix of recesses and at least a subset of the plurality of cell terminals extend through the openings of the wall of the perforated cell carrier. Electrically conductive interconnecting members are electrically coupled to at least two of the cell terminals of the battery cells that extend through the openings of the perforated cell carrier to provide an electrical interconnection therebetween.
Abstract: Various embodiments are described herein for a battery pack enclosure having a retaining assembly for maintaining cell carrier assemblies within the battery pack enclosure at a fixed position. The retaining assembly comprises a fixed portion, an adjustable portion and a locking member to hold the plurality of cell carrier assemblies at the fixed position.
Abstract: Various embodiments are described herein for a system for providing electric power during use. The battery pack system includes at least one cell carrier assembly configured to provide electric current during use. The cell carrier assembly has a substantially planar configuration. The battery pack system further includes a battery pack enclosure for housing the at least one cell carrier assembly. The battery pack enclosure has at least one wall with at least one channel sized to receive an edge of the cell carrier assembly to locate the cell carrier assembly at a location within the battery pack enclosure and provide a thermal pathway during use.
Abstract: Various embodiments are described herein for a pressure valve for a battery pack comprising a housing that has a cavity, a first plate inside the cavity and an expansible chamber inside the cavity between the first plate and the bottom of the housing. The first plate and the expansible chamber have openings that are in fluid communication with a gas inside the battery pack. The expansible chamber is deformable in order to contract or expand in response to changes in pressure in the gas within the battery pack and the first plate is movable relative to the bottom of the housing.
